Flowers are one of the most identifiable aspects of nature. They are associated with everything from weddings to school dances, and they always bring an aspect of joy and beauty to any occasion.
Flowers are nature’s decoration, and we are lucky enough to bear witness to their beauty. Also lucky for Oswego, there is an option to receive these flowers from its very own Floral Expressions.
Floral Expressions is a flower and gift company located in downtown Oswego on Main Street, and they have been offering their services since 2001. They supply impressive arrangements for a variety of occasions throughout the year to people in the Oswego area, making them a beloved staple for any special occasion in the community.
“I know a lot of people who go to Floral Expressions, especially for homecoming and similar occasions. I always see happy customers in their store, and everyone I know has been pleased with their service,” said junior Owen Driscoll.
The workers at the store are dedicated to their art and work tirelessly to make sure the community gets their fair share of the beautiful pieces of nature they create.
“[I]t’s perishable stuff you’re working with. So you’ve got to do it up, you know, right before it goes out. So it’s a lot of late nights right before holidays and proms and homecomings,” said Floral Expressions’ florist, Terri Platt.
Now that springtime is approaching, and with Valentine’s just passing, it is one of the busiest times of year for the company. In addition to everyday tasks like birthdays and funerals, prom is approaching, and other big spring holidays that make sure Floral Expressions remains busy.
“You [have] to be able to know that you have time to make them if you take an order, so it gets a little hairy, but we love it,” said Platt.
Floral Expressions serves many families and companies in the area, but they also spread joy around the community to other people as well. This past Valentine’s Day, they provided bouquets to residents of local assisted living facilities, bringing joy to another aspect of the community.
The store has a method to ensure that every order is seen with care and attention, especially for an important occasion like prom.
“A part of our prom season is working with different colors and different flowers, [[…]] a lot of people bring in their dress colors, and we try to match it with a ribbon or tulle or something,” explained Platt.
At the end of the day, the company loves getting to do what they love in different ways as the seasons and occasions change month by month.
“The part we enjoy the most is being seasonal,“ said Platt. “So we have a change of [[…]] flowers and style [[…]] You don’t get bored and it’s not like you’re doing repetitive stuff. You get a change of a field with the flowers and we all like that.”
