OH seniors, juniors, and even some sophomores own a wide variety of cars. Whether they value flashiness, reliability, nostalgia, or cost, every student has a specific story behind the car they drive, filling the OH parking lots with unique and interesting rides.
New drivers need to have a safe and reliable first car to help them feel confident and gain experience on the road. A dependable car also provides better protection and lowers the chances of issues while driving.
“A Toyota is reliable and will run forever and I’ve had no issues [with my Camry],” said OH senior Spencer Beamish.
Whether a brand is known for its reliability or not, ensuring a vehicle is in good condition is crucial to picking a car. Even an older car in good condition can be considered for those more interested in such models. The practicality of a car should also be taken into account, as it can become tedious to own a car that does not fit certain needs such as cargo space or passenger space.
“[My ‘96 Suzuki X-90 is] fun to drive, though it gets lots of looks. I always have someone talking to me about it,” said OH junior Jase Dobyns.
Along with seeking a car they enjoy driving, OH students should put safety as their first priority when it’s time to choose their car. This includes the control the driver has over the car and how well a driver is able to safely see in their car.
“[My ‘17 Mini Cooper] handles really well, and you get really good visibility, too … compared to my brother’s car which has really big A-pillars,” said OH senior Owen Dougherty. A-pillars, as car enthusiasts know, make peripheral visibility more difficult.
With demands for better safety features to help prevent and protect in accidents, as well as more advanced technology to improve vehicle quality and performance, plenty of newer cars meet consumer demands in safety, comfort, practicality, and fun. Such is the case for OH junior Nicholas Gallo and his ‘17 Honda Accord Sport.
“If you’re looking for decent speed and good features, this is it. It [can get up to speed very easily], which is amazing for an Inline-4…Honda’s also are very reliable, as mine has over 150,000 miles,” said Gallo.
OH students have their own preferences to consider along with what they need in a car. Be it from something as small as an aux jack or something as large as a V8 engine, there is a car for everyone.
