With the recent reveal of the ’25 OH Prom’s theme, “Once Upon a Time,” students have had mixed feedback.

Some put it bluntly: “The current theme is boring and generic and fails to differentiate itself from other similar themes,” said OH senior Anthony Spevere.

The theme clashes with many personal ideas and styles students intend to wear for prom, as preparations and planning for prom was already decided before ‘Once Upon a Time’ was selected.

“I already have my dress and it doesn’t match at all,” said OH junior Hailey Nass.

Along with having an outfit planned before knowing the theme, having plans to match with others or simply not feeling a need to conform to the style of a fairy-tail-like prom is not for everyone.

“I don’t think it’s that important to match the theme since everyone will wear or should wear what makes them feel their best,” said OH senior Isabella Delgado.

“My dress is black and doesn’t match the theme so I’m sure others won’t mind not matching,” she added.

While voices of the student body settle down, other ideas were very prominent. Though the majority vote was for ‘Once Upon a Time,’ the runner-up was ‘New Orleans.’

Students did otherwise share other ideas for the prom theme, such as ‘Mardi Gras,’ ‘Casino/Vegas,’ or ‘Underwater/Under the Sea.’

“There’s more decoration and specificity. [[‘Once Upon a Time’]] is really vague. Anything could be ‘Once Upon a Time.’ Besides, who doesn’t love seashell decor?” said OH senior Greer McCrimmon.

Seniors were sent out an email about voting for this year’s prom theme, but responses were not abundant enough for a more accurate agreement within the student body.

“Out of the 700 students that we sent [the voting form] to, only about 250 even voted,” said OH teacher and junior class council sponsor Jessica Kawulia.

Despite dispute, delight is also present within the majority of those who intend to use the theme to the best of their extent. Many correlate the theme with fairy tales or Disney films, which often creates ideas for students to build off of.

“I like Beauty and the Beast so a ballroom theme like that would be cool,” said OH senior Lucas Snodgrass.

It will be a very interesting sight on May 3rd at the Matrix Club Venue in Naperville, IL, with many varying takes and styles for ‘Once Upon a Time.’ Even flashy outfits outside of the theme will be appealing to see.

“I do really appreciate when people do follow the theme, because I love seeing everyone dressed up and whatnot, having fun,” said OH sophomore and Fashion Construction II student Caroline Evans.

“But yeah,” she concluded, “I don’t really think all too many people care much for the theme.”
