It is officially fall and nothing is more fitting than music during this sweater weather. Noah Kahan, a singer and songwriter, recently released an album called Stick Season on Oct. 15. The album consists of 14 songs, 10 of which are written by Kahan. The album was released across platforms like Spotify and YouTube Music.

Below is my opinion on some of my favorite songs from this album:

‘Northern Attitude’

If you want to feel like you are in a movie, this is the song for you. The song begins with the lyrics, “breathin’ in, breathin’ out”. For many, this can mean take it all in or stay relaxed.  This is a great way to start a song as well as a great way to kick off the entire album. Like the lyrics, the chorus in this song is beautiful and it pulls the entire song together.

‘Stick Season

Reflection is always healthy. Whether it’s reflecting on past memories or remembering relationships, this song brings light to nostalgia. Whether those memories are good or bad, this song shows the importance of moving forward. The lyrics, “And I’ll dream each night of some version of you that I might not have, but I did not lose”, shows that even though Kahan couldn’t have what he wanted, he won’t lose the memories he made.

‘All My Love

This song has all of MY love. If you are fresh out of a relationship or just love the “I will wait for you” trope, this song is for you. Along with a fresh fall sense and a bit of romance, the lyrics of this song describe a strong love for someone.

‘She Calls Me Back

Waiting for a call or text from someone you love? This song is the feeling of when they finally answer. It personifies the essence of anxiety blowing away like a leaf; he uses lyrics like, “Everything’s alright when she calls me back” to show how much we look forward to a text or call from someone we love.

‘New Perspective

Do you live in a small town that never changes? I do. The lyrics of this song hit close to home when he sings, “the intersection got a Target and they’re calling it downtown”. Target is my go to hangout spot with or without friends. It’s the most entertaining thing going on around here. I love this song’s description of the need for change. Along with the amazing lyrics, Noah Kahan’s vocals to this song make something like a small town nostalgic.

‘Orange Juice

Recovery is difficult. Whether it’s recovering from a break up or an addiction, this song shows the need for change. Throughout the song, Kahan mentions “there’s orange juice in the kitchen” and this gives me the same feeling as someone saying ‘look how far you have come’.

Songs not mentioned:

“Come Over”

“Everywhere, Everything”

“Strawberry Wine”

“Growing Sideways”

“Halloween”

“Homesick”

“Still”

“The View Between Villages”

Enjoy and make the most of your stick season with this album:
