The beginning of 2019 started off with two highly anticipated game releases, “Resident Evil 2” and “Kingdom Hearts III.” As of now, these two games have seen huge success. Each year, developers continue to work on and release new games to keep gamers interested. Some of the upcoming games being released this year have been in the works for years, and fans have been eagerly waiting for their release date. Let’s take a look at some of the more anticipated games set to be released in 2019.

“Crackdown 3”

Set to be released today, this is an action-adventure game for Microsoft Windows and Xbox One. The development is being headed by British developer Sumo Digital and will be officially published by Xbox Game Studios. The release will continue the series nine years after the release of the Xbox 360 game “Crackdown 2.” Originally set to be released in 2016, “Crackdown 3” was delayed a number of times for several reasons. Upon release, it will be available to play with no additional cost for Xbox Game Pass subscribers. This installment retains gameplay from the previous games, featuring different organizations controlling the city of New Providence. Players can use a variety of weapons in order to achieve the end goal, and can also drive any vehicle found in-game.

“Far Cry New Dawn”

The upcoming first-person shooter game developed by Ubisoft Montreal and published by Ubisoft is also set to release today, Feb. 15. This is a spin-off of the “Far Cry” series and narrative sequel to “Far Cry 5.” “Far Cry New Dawn” is set to release for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. “Far Cry New Dawn” is a first-person shooter set in an open world environment where the player can freely explore. The game is set in the fictional town of Hope County, Montana with a reimagined map from “Far Cry 5.” The player will assume the role of a new character, whose gender and race can be customized. In addition to new characters, the game’s cast includes returning characters from “Far Cry 5.” The player can also encounter several specialists who have personal missions, special abilities, story, and they can also help players repair weapons.

“Tom Clancy’s The Division 2”

Set to be released March 15, “The Division 2” is an upcoming online action role-playing game developed by Massive Entertainment and published by Ubisoft. It’s the sequel to “Tom Clancy’s The Division,” and will be released for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The game will be played from a third-person perspective, taking place in Washington, D.C.. Throughout the game, players can cooperate with each other to complete objectives. It will also include raids that can be completed with a maximum of eight people. The endgame for “Tom Clancy’s The Division 2” was made a priority for the developer after hearing complaints from the first game. The game was officially announced March 9, 2018 by Ubisoft with gameplay footage. Ubisoft confirmed the release date for the game during Expo back in 2018. The beta was released Feb. 7, 2019 and ended just three days later. Once the game is released, three episodes of downloadable content, which add new story content and game modes, will be released to players for free.  

“Mortal Kombat 11”

This is an upcoming fighting game developed by NetherRealm Studios and published by Warner Bros. It’s the 11th installment in the Mortal Kombat series, and sequel to “Mortal Kombat X.” Announced during the 2018 Game Awards, the worldwide release date was announced for April 23, 2019 for Microsoft Windows, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Pre-ordering the game grants players access to the character Shao Kahn and beta test for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4, which are set to open March 28, 2019. Alongside the returning fatalities and brutalities, new in-game features are introduced such as “Fatal Blow,” which is available once a players health gets below 30 percent. The first revealed characters were series veterans Baraka, Raiden, Scorpion, Sonya Blade and Sub-Zero. Once launched, the game is set to have 25 playable characters in total.

“The Sinking City”

This is an upcoming adventure-horror game developed by Frogwares and published by Bigben Interactive. It is set for release on March 21 for PlayStation 4, Microsoft Windows, and Xbox One. The game was inspired by works from the author H.P. Lovecraft. The protagonist, Charles W. Reed, is a private investigator, whose task is to resist the mass hysteria and discover mysterious events that have brought the city to the brink of collapsing. “The Sinking City” features an open investigation system in which the outcome in player’s quests will be defined on how observant the player is throughout the game.  

We already know that games such as “Resident Evil 2” and “Kingdom Hearts III” have performed well and received positive feedback from gamers, but how will these games do? Over the next few months, gamers will be waiting for the release of more games, hoping to find new adventures to take part in. Hopefully throughout 2019 more amazing games will be released to heighten the standard of what real gaming should look like.
