Having a best friend who lives across the country is indescribable. People ask me what it’s like to have someone so special to me who is 1,118 miles away. Well…
One minute we were side by side with each other, making memories and most definitely laughing. Next, she’s packing up her life to move across the country.
From hangouts and sleepovers to Face Times and messages on a day to day basis as I hear all about her new friends and new life at her new school. And yet, I can’t stop but to think that they’re just so lucky to have her.
We continue to go through the toughest times of teenage years without having each other directly by our sides.
Plane ticket prices are continuing to rise, and now we are both so busy with two different lives. It gets tough, it sometimes feels like I have no one by my side, but then I know she’s just a text away.
As I see girls in the hallway with their best friend, it always makes me think of her. I get teary eyed as we had always talked about how excited we were to go into our senior year together, last time ever in the same school. Now, it’s like a piece of me is missing.
Now we’re both just about to graduate from two different schools.
It didn’t get better.
As I struggle with friendships it always leads back to thinking of how lucky I am to have her. How lucky I am to have someone to always go to for anything. How lucky I am to call her my best friend.
Having to say how proud I am of her over the phone is so different from telling her in person.
We may not be face to face on a daily basis, but when we are, it’s like no time has passed and it continues to stay like that.
From meeting each other in eighth grade English class, to seeing each other graduate over the phone is something that not only is hard, but reminds me of how special she is to me.
We know each other inside and out, and that is something distance can’t change. Knowing I have someone to count on from 1,118 miles away, is what makes it all worth it in the end.
