As days get longer and fields turn green, the OH girls’ spring season is underway, continuing their season with a game tonight against Bollingbrook High School.
The season kicked off with a game against Batavia on Sat. Mar 21, with a successful victory 4-1, starting their winning record. This year has been successful so far with the team currently 13-1.
“Making program history was my favorite part [of the 2025 season] and going as far as possible,” said OH junior goal keeper Kyla Baier.
In the ’25 season, the team took home a win at Conference, the first time in OH history. With the new season underway, many athletes prepared during the off-season to make this one more successful.
Head cCach Gaspar Arias said, “Our short-term goal is to win every game… and our long-term goal is the playoffs and to advance more this year.”
With a mix of players throughout all grade levels and fresh talent, the team is locked in on building team chemistry, especially with players who spend all four years in the program.
OH senior center back Peyton Johnson said, “I’ve met a lot of my best friends through soccer.”
Off the field, the team is equally committed to having a supportive and positive environment. Baier added, “It’s very eventful, I have a lot of fun with my teamates, and my coaches are very supportive.”
Team-building activities occur all throughout the season outside of their schedules. Athletes do things like team dinners after practice and various other activities. Building strong relationships makes for a more successful team.
Current seniors, including Natalie Gubricky, Rebbekkah Larrea, Olivia Giles, Gianna Rizzo, Kailey Smith, Destany Luna, Peyton Johnson, Jordyn Washington, Peyton Brolley, Aubrey Atkins, Nathalia Wheeler, and Sidney Edwards, will play their last high school season.
The question of whether seniors will continue to play in college is something every athlete is faced with. Athletes like Johnson specifically plan to play D1 soccer at Lindenwood University.
The girls are ready to take on the field and have successful rest of the season. Today, the team faces Bollingbrook High School at 4:30.
