“The Kissing Booth” is a Netflix original that was released May 11, 2018. The movie focuses around Elle Evans (Joey King), her best friend Lee Flynn (Joel Courtney) and his older brother Noah Flynn (Jacob Elordi). The movie’s plot shows the relationship between the three main characters and how their bond changes and develops over time.

I love watching romance movies, so when I heard about “The Kissing Booth,” I could not wait for it to come out. Overall, I really enjoyed the movie; let me tell you why.

Elle Evans and Lee Flynn have been best friends since they were younger, and have established rules in order to maintain their friendship. Throughout the movie, viewers learn about some of the rules that the friends have created. The biggest rule that Elle and Lee have established is rule No. 9: Relatives are off-limits when it comes to relationships. This rule creates tension between the three main characters as a romantic connection between Elle and Noah increases.

Throughout the movie, you eventually learn that Elle has secretly had a crush on Noah since she was a kid.

At the beginning, Elle and Lee need to come up with an idea for the school carnival, which ends up being a kissing booth. At the school carnival, Elle gets pressured, by her friends, to go into the booth. When she enters, she kisses the person, blindfolded, and realizes that the boy is Noah.

Towards the end of the movie, Lee finds out about the relationship between Noah and Elle, and doesn’t want anything to do with either one of them, which then causes problems between Elle and Noah. Elle does everything she can to get her best friend back, but nothing works out. Eventually, Lee forgives Elle, and Elle breaks-up with Noah soon after he tells her that he loves her.

After Elle breaks-up with Noah, she confesses her love to Lee, but Noah, at the time, is leaving for school. Therefore, she won’t get to tell him the full situation. On the way to the airport she tells “Lee” that she loves Noah and that hopefully he will still be at the airport for her to tell him, when really she is telling Noah.

Overall, I enjoyed the movie because it relates to real high school relationships and what teenagers might go through when falling in love. That being said, it wasn’t the absolute best teen romance I have seen.

The storyline throughout the movie stays consistent and helps the audience understand the connections between the three main characters. The actors also had good chemistry throughout the movie and they got along very well with each other by demonstrating proper problem solving skills.

The chemistry between Elle and Noah was actually so intense during the movie that the on screen relationship ended up sparking a real-life romance. The chemistry between the actors, for me personally, is most likely what made the movie became such a hit.

In all honesty, I feel that the relationship between Elle and Noah was cute, but they shouldn’t have kept it from Lee. However, by keeping it all a secret, the situation did create suspense and  kept me into the movie the whole time.

One thing that could have made the movie even better, though, was if the story wasn’t so predictable and if it wasn’t like every other teen romance movie.

That all being said, the movie was very interesting and exciting and it’s something I would definitely watch again. I would rate “The Kissing Booth” an 8 out of 10 because I truly enjoyed the movie and the storyline kept me interested.
