Last time I sat down with Freshmen baseball player Devin Hoffman we talked about him throwing a no-hitter against Naperville North. Since then Devin is 4-2 leading up to his Sophomore start. This time I sat down with him and talked about him getting called up to Sophomore from Freshmen.
“It felt pretty good” said Devin when I asked him what it felt like when he got told he was getting moved up. “Felt like all that hard work from like to like tee ball up to high school level paid off to get moved up, for pitching especially.”
Devin was nervous he stated. As he showed it by hitting the first batter of the game against Plainfield East with the first pitch “Right in the shoulder… my spot was right down the middle and it just tailed right at him”, Devin stated to be exact. “I just smiled it off, it was funny.”
We then joked around about him hitting three kids and he said “I average hitting a kid or two a game. I don’t walk kids, I hit them.”
He then gave up 7 runs and hit two more batters. But the good thing is he walked one or none kids and struck out 5.
When I asked Devin how he thought he did he stated, “Decent for the first Sophomore outing…I don’t know how many were earned runs cause I think we had a couple of errors and the bats were not there, so it wasn’t a good outing, wasn’t a good day”
He also doesn’t just pitch he also plays Right Field, “He said I will play right in the B game and hit in A game (meaning DH) this Saturday.” When I asked him if he could hit since he is also hitting and not just pitching, “A little bit, not that much”
