After late February tryouts, each sport has finalized its team and is ready to jump into action. OH Athletic Director Darren Howard reflected on the past season and is working to make this one a well-managed season.

“Spring is a challenging season for athletes and coaches. It is the toughest season [regarding] weather and changes,” said Howard. “It also carries with it all the student events like spring break, prom, graduation, etc. that make it challenging for student-athletes to stay focused throughout the season.”

Roadblocks are expected, but the athletic department appreciates coaches being flexible with practice spaces.

“Our coaches do a great job of collaborating with the athletic office to get every sport [an] opportunity to hold practices and contests,” Howard said.

Having mutual respect with coaches and the athletic department, they prioritize each team to make sure they are having a good experience.

“It is very important that everyone understands the work of the coaching staff in caring about all sports and giving all Panthers the best we can give them,” Howard said.

According to Howard, much goes into supporting spring sports, whether it is rescheduling games, providing practice spaces, or maintaining the fields.

“One of the key things we do in athletics in the spring is the very large amounts of rescheduled games for a multitude of sports,” said Howard. “The other key part is being sure all our outdoor fields are kept clean, cut, watered, lined, etc. for practices and games on a daily basis, including weekends.”

With all of the work put into the spring season, a great way to show appreciation for OH athletics is to be in attendance at the games.

Spring sports often do not see the fan turnout that fall and winter see. I invite all our Panthers to finish the school year with high school spirit and get out to cheer on our teams in all sports,” said Howard. “We have some very talented and exciting teams and student-athletes to watch.”

“We anticipate some great things happening at OHS in athletics this spring,” said Howard.
