On Sat., the Panthers' Kaleb Stupenhorst made history with a 42-yard field goal to win 10-7 against Lockport, giving Oswego a bid at the State title after 22 years.
With characteristic teamwork and determination, the Panthers continued to get done what they've aimed to all season: a win - good, bad or ugly. In the photo essay below, relive the instant classic game as it unfolded.
Now, the team looks ahead to their goal of bringing home the State championship this Sat., Nov. 29. They know they are the underdogs in this fight, but wouldn't it be the cherry on top of the Mt. Carmel sundae to bring that trophy home?
Students and staff at OH are stepping into a new era of school pride with the completion of a renovated main gym floor designed with input from the entire OH community.
The replacement became necessary after severe water damage ruined the old floor and made it unusable. OH Athletic Director Daniel Arntzen said the project prioritized collaboration with students and staff.
“We wanted something that honors the history of the orange and blue court we had before," Artzen said. "Student input was honestly the deciding factor.”
In an email sent to students and parents/guardians this morning, the OH community learned that "due to the expected heat on Friday afternoon, the Homecoming Pep Assembly at Oswego High School will take place in the morning during periods 2 and 3."
The heat, which according to The Weather Channel, is expected to be 90 degrees and sunny skies during the previously-scheduled 1:30 p.m. assembly, was of concern to administration.
"I do understand that it was because of the heat or whatever which is good because like then we don't have to be out there [[[in the heat]] and all," said senior Cameron Fichtel. "But I feel like it's going to affect everyone's day having it at the beginning instead of the end.”
The announcement of Homecoming Court nominees through the OH speakers during the 2nd period on Friday marked the official start of Homecoming Week. Students got excited when they heard familiar names through the speakers, and the nominees proudly make their way to the OH main office.
Every year, there are 10 members of the court, all of whom are seniors. This year, the Homecoming King nomination winners are: Kobe Jones, Chase Berkenson, Kam Jenkins, Anthony Mullen, and Michael Holmstrom. Homecoming Queen nomination winners are: Mia Medina, Ashley Cook, Gia Smith, Ali Bauman, and Morgan Pawlisz.
These nominees are chosen by who received the most votes via an online form.
“I posted on my Snapchat story, like, mostly every day, just telling people to vote,” said Cook.
Yesterday, Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) Superintendent Dr. Tony Sanders visited OH to celebrate student achievement and discuss issues, like mental health, facing schools.
42Fifty reporter Ethan Monahan and videographer Aster Lasher covered the event.
