Spreading holiday cheer this year: Oswego holiday activities aim to unite the community

The holiday season is here, and Oswego tradition is that it is up to all members of the community to decide how the holiday cheer will be spread - but uniting the community is at the heart of the season. The Oswego village and the OH community have many popular holiday traditions like the Thanksgiving Feast, the Christmas Walk, the BIONIC gift wrapping, and the all-staff holiday spirit week.  With a large smile, OH Reaching Independence through Structured Education (RISE) educator Amy Mcllvain said the holiday season gets “better and better” each year.

As Mariah Carey said, "It's time for the holiday season!" And what would the holidays be without favorite holiday tunes? Podcast hosts Jia Nair and Stephanie Mayorga rap about holiday music and share student poll feedback about favorite and least favorite holiday songs. The songs students chose from were among the Top 20 Christmas songs ever, according to Millie Forrest from Access Creative. Listen in for the best and the worst of the season!

Shattering records: Oswego swimming & diving earns accolades at State

On Nov. 14 and 15, OE senior Katie Malm shattered the IHSA State record and earned first place in her dive in the 2025 IHSA Girls Swimming & Diving State Finals. Many girls in the OE and OH combined swim and dive team went to State, held at the FMC Natatorium in Westmont, and competed, contributing to the team's outstanding Sectionals and State performance. “Katie is an incredible athlete," said Coach and OH Career & Technical Education Ryan Pentzian. "She has all the skills and all the head space to succeed in her stuff.”

Como septiembre fue el Mes de Prevención de Suicidio, y octubre es el mes de Concientización de Depresión, traer concientización del mayor caso de suicidio es valioso, para que la gente pueda conocer las señales tempranas y ayudar a seres queridos con depresión, estar ahí como soporte y escucharlos cuando es necesario.  El suicidio es la undécima principal causa de fallecimiento en los Estados Unidos, y hay un estimado de 1,5 millones de intentos de suicidio. 91% de adultos encuestados en los Estados Unidos piensan que el suicidio puede ser prevenido en algún punto, según Fundación Americana para la Prevención del Suicidio (AFSP).  Según los Centros para el Control y la Prevención de Enfermedades de EE. UU. (CDC), Aproximadamente 49.000 personas fallecieron en los Estados Unidos en 2023 por causa de suicidio. Todavía la mancha de salud mental ha causado muchas controversias durante las últimas dos pasadas décadas, causando que la gente se mienta a sí misma lo que siente.
