Senior Column: Forever grateful for family

Unsurprisingly, I am not the person I was when I walked into high school my freshman year. I have grown academically, emotionally, and physically. But there has always been one consistent thing in my life throughout my high school career, and that is my family.  Although there are ups and downs in my family, we are always there to support each other, no matter what happens. When I told my parents I wanted to become an engineer, they supported me unconditionally.  No matter what I told them I wanted to do and however many times I changed which college was number one on my list, they were always there to give me advice and support me in whatever decisions I made.  My mom always wants the best for me and my sisters. Although it gets a little frustrating, she will always push me to be the best person and student I can be because she always knows I have it in me, even when I don’t know it myself.

From head to toe, athletic trainers protect OH athletes from injuries and much more. This March, the OH community spreads awareness about our athletic trainers and what they do for athletes.  Athletic trainers help with everything from muscle injuries to preventing and diagnosing all types of injuries.  “If you were to walk into the training room after school on a given day, you would see athletes being evaluated for different injuries,” said the President of the National Honor Society of Sports Medicine (NHSSM) and Oswego athletic training student (OATS), senior Abigail Mundsinger. “[[You would also see]] athletes doing some sort of treatment like a hot pack and would also [[see]] other athletes doing rehabilitation exercises.”

Some OH freshman, it seems, will do anything for a donut party. This February, OH Freshman Seminar groups collected as many aluminum cans as possible, some donating over 100 cans a day, to win a donut party for their seminar sections. The friendly competition supported the Kendall County Animal Shelter.  "I told them at the beginning that if we were going to try to win, we had to actually commit to doing it," said Fleming, "some people went above and beyond than I thought they would."
