Turns out a little, light public shaming can go a long way. An anonymous Instagram account in Oswego posts about student’s bad parking and may have slightly improved students parking after only a couple weeks.
The Instagram account owner (who wished to remain anonymous) said in an Insta chat interview, “I think the account might have changed a few peoples parking, as I’ve seen fewer people with a wheel in the grass or crooked.”
The account has become a popular topic among students, because it combines humor with a common issue in the school parking lot: truly bad parking.
“I think it’s funny as long as no one is being mean about it,” said OH junior Djevdet Vejseli said.
While some OH students find this Instagram account funny, others are worried about being posted on this account due to bad parking.
“It makes me worried if i do get posted because then my car will be shown to the school in a humiliating way and affect me negatively,” said OH junior Djevdet Vejseli.
Posts on this anonymous Instagram account seem to worry some students, knowing they can be posted at any time and have their instagram account mentioned in the post to publicly shame the parking job.
The identity of the Instagram account’s owner remains unknown, though many believe it may be an OH senior since most of the students featured on the account are also seniors.
While the page has drawn attention for highlighting poor parking, some students believe it could have a positive effect by encouraging OH drivers to park more carefully and avoid being posted.
