Upon learning that celebrity singer/songwriter and humanitarian Dolly Parton had passed away, OH junior Ayaan Khan was one of the people who felt affected.
“I was really sad to hear about her passing because she was a really important person in music and entertainment,” Khan said. “[She] also had a lot of impact on people around the world.”
Though Khan, like most people, never met Parton, she held a deep legacy through her stories of growing through hardship and finding kindness and beauty in the world.
“I was upset to hear about Parton’s passing. She was an important person to everyone and changed a lot of people’s lives,” OH junior Emma Villanueva said.
Khan and Villanueva are not alone in their feelings toward Parton. Today, Sept. 25, is being touted as “Dolly Parton Day,” in honor of her popular song and the film in which she started, “9-to-5“, which will return to theaters this October in honor of her legacy.
Parton was a legendary actor winning 10 Grammy awards and earning 55 nominations.
Dozens of celebrities have passed away in this year alone, including Tim Curry, a famous actor who was in many popular movies like “Home Alone 2,” and 1990’s TV miniseries “IT,” although he is most known for “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” lead character, Dr. Frank-N-Furter.
“Tim Curry was one of my childhood favorite actors,” OH junior Gael Sanches said. “I couldn’t believe that he died.”
OH students may know Curry from voiceovers in “Curious George 2: Follow That Monkey” (2009), “The Voyages of Young Doctor Dolittle” (2011), and “Phineas and Ferb” (2008-2012), or appearances in “Transformers: Rescue Bots” (2012) and as Chancellor Palpatine and Darth Sidious in “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” (2012-2014).
Curry passed away unexpectedly August 25, at age 80, from a coronary artery disease. “It’s pretty sad and unexpected,” OH junior Nathan Lafan said.
With the rise in social media, many new celebrity icons pop up every year. On top of that a major portion of the celebrities also pass away unexpectedly every year. However, many celebrities also pass away unexpectedly each year, leaving their fans shocked.
Curry and Parton’s deaths remind people how quickly life can change and how much of an impact celebrities can have on others, even if students have never met them in person.
