Imagine being covered in a blanket and surrounded by your friends while watching a fun movie. This is exactly what OH’s Student Council hosted after announcing Mr. Oswego. This was a new, great way to start off the week of Homecoming on Sept. 29.

“I have never been to a movie night before,” said OH sophomore Laycie Cherry. “I came because it sounded fun.”

The movie shown, “10 Things I Hate About You,” is a comedy-romance movie based off the Shakespeare play “Taming of the Shrew” was created in the 90’s. The movie is about two sisters with totally different lives at school.

Bianca is the outgoing and social type, while her sister Kat is very antisocial. This becomes an issue when Bianca and a boy named Cameron cannot date because Kat doesn’t have anyone. Cameron decides to pay another boy to try and date Kat, which obviously does not go well.

Many students attended this event, which was amazing to see. Many blankets full of students laughing, having an awesome and relaxed time was a fun way to kick of Homecoming week.

There hasn’t been a movie night held at OH in a while, and that was quite surprising. Playing a movie is a great way to get students involved in more activities.

Attendees said Student Council did an amazing job planning to host this event after Mr. Oswego, because many students were already there.

“The goals, I think, were just to give another event to provide something fun and different for homecoming week,” said Student Council Adviser Anne Sweeney. “We had over 300 kids show up… I think we achieved our goal, and that is for a first-year event to get interest in and people out.” .

Sweeney was really happy with how this event turned out and enjoyed seeing the involvement of many students.

When asked what the purpose for the event was, OH sophomore Arizona thought “more school activities and to get more people involved.”

Cherry said the event was “for everyone to get involved and have fun.”

Concessions like popcorn and drinks were offered, and members of the student council helped to direct everyone to where they needed to go.

“Originally, we were worried that Mr. Oswego wasn’t going to run because we weren’t sure if we were going to have enough seniors interested in doing it.” Sweeney stated. “I remembered an event that was a homecoming week event when I went to high school [At a different high school]. It was called a car-less drive-in.”

Using her past high school experience was an idea that appealed to students. Sweeney remembered a similar movie night at her high school and thought it would be good at OH, and she was right.
