The 2024 OH Homecoming is an exciting day for many students, with the majority of students following the designated theme, creating an event with awesome attire. The 2024 OH Homecoming theme “Neon Nights,” when finally released, left many students frustrated and lost, many asking, “What should I wear to match a date?”
OH senior Tennille Johnson said, “When I first heard the neon theme was picked for Homecoming, I was highly disappointed. I was like, ‘What am I gonna wear? What’s this gonna look like?’”
The theme is new to OH, which makes it difficult to gain inspiration from, but also poses as new opportunities for a one-of-a-kind event.
“I feel like it’s unique, we haven’t had a theme like this before,” said senior Ahamad Ali. With such a complicated theme, this year’s turnout of students matching the theme may be significantly lower, especially for guys, as many find it even harder to match with such a theme.
“It’s not something that boys could have a lot of ideas to match with,” said Johnson.
Given this hard theme, we hope to share some ideas and inspiration for guys wanting to match. Firstly, what seems like a very obvious idea may not seem the best option, that being a neon colored suit, which may be too much neon for some students.
“I can guarantee you, it’s [going to] look highlighter [and] you don’t want to look like a highlighter,” said Johnson.
In contrast, there are many other ideas for guys to wear for neon. Some ideas could be small items within a suit to accent the neon theme. For example, a neon tie, bowtie, pocket square, or belt. These smaller details make it more attainable for those wanting to wear suits to match the theme.
Johnson added, “buttons that glow in the dark or something, or like little like lines, lacings that glow in the dark, but I wouldn’t suggest anything hugely bright.” These ideas all share a similarity of being small accents to match the neon theme.
One piece a student could easily wear to match the theme is a simple bracelet. This allows guys to wear any color suit while also having a quick and easy way to provide some similarities to go along with the theme. With neon, it’s pretty easy to have something small provide a large impact with its bright coloring.
“I am going to go with a more unique, vibrant vibe to it [[…][ something that stands out,” said Ali.
It would be amazing to see that most students try to follow some sort of theme since neon will create such a fun Homecoming. It’s assumed that most students won’t try to match, leaving many OH students thinking the theme will not be very present.
“I feel like 92% of people are not going to follow the thing, because Neon [[…]] is not like you don’t wear it outside. It’s something that is really not sold,” said Johnson.
While the theme may make it difficult for some students wanting to match, especially for guys, we hope you now have some ideas on attire for Homecoming, and organizers wish to at least see many students wearing bright neon accents this year.
