Oswego High School’s Groundskeeper Mr. Wayne Cochran, 64, lost his battle with cancer on Thursday Jan. 23, 2020. He was born in Jan. 16, 1956 in Rockford, Illinois, the son of Robert and Sandra Cochran. He married his wife Mrs. Rhonda Cochran in April 2011. Mrs. Cochran also works at OHS as a sign language interpreter. Mr. Cochran is survived by his four children, five step-children, and 15 grandchildren.
Mr. Cochran served in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He was very satisfied with his job as a groundskeeper at Oswego High School, as it was a life-long aspiration for him. Mr. Cochran was a fan of Chicago sports teams, such as the Chicago Bears White Sox. Spending time with his 15 grandchildren was his favorite thing to do.
Mr. Cochran began working in District 308 in the fall of 2013 as a substitute custodian, and became a full-time custodian a few months later. In 2018, Mr. Cochran became part of the OHS groundskeeping team.
A funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2020 at Turner-Eighner Funeral Home in Plano, Illinois. Pastor Derek Johnsen will be leading the service. A burial will be held on Jan. 29, 2020 at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elmwood, Illinois.
