Taylor Swift is one of the biggest pop artists OH students know in pop culture, and at the VMAs (the MTV Video Music Awards), she showed her pride in being a top artist for many by presenting a new music video, and taking home three awards, one being a New Inaugural Director Honors Award, which represented Swift’s artistry.

The VMAs took place on Sep. 27, at 6:30 PM CDT, and one of the many artists who was recognized and awarded for their art, was Swift.

Fans has to wait an additional 20 minutes for the show due to a Cowboys vs. Ravens game, which angered Swifties, her fan base, worldwide, as Swift was presenting her new music video for her song “Patient Zero” from “The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore,” and being presented the first inaugural Artist Director Honors award.

On top of these two things, Swift also took home Video of The Year for her music video for “The Fate of Ophelia” and Best Direction for her music video for “Opalite.”

“She’s pretty prolific, she writes nonstop, you can just see by how much she continuously [is] developing and releasing new music,” said OH English teacher Erin Holtz regarding Swift’s achievements.

Near the end of the award show, Swift’s friend, and also star of the “Patient Zero” music video, Dakota Johnson, presented Swift with the inaugural Artist Director Honors award, where the two, excitedly stood by to watch.

The music video also starred Colin Farrell as the antagonist in Swift’s story.

“If you watch her videos they’re not just a music video, it tells a story. You can tell that it’s got artistic vision,” said Holtz.

Her new music video was seen as a piece of art to many swifties, leaving them wondering, if this was how her life was like.

“I thought [the music video] was very cool, it made me feel very sad thinking this was her life,” said OH senior Elsa Norman.

On top of the storyline, many OH swifties reflected on her production value and how viewers can tell Swift puts in her all for her music videos.

“I think that she is such a good director. She is so amazing, and like how she produces her music, and like on the records, and also her actual directing in music videos is definitely deserved,” said OH senior Emma Francheschini.

Over a week since the VMAs were shown, Swift’s music video for “Patient Zero” has garnered over 12 million views on YouTube, and Swifties at OH are still talking about her talents.

Swift has been a role model for many OH students since they were younger, and seeing Swift succeed by winning new awards and producing even better music videos, can be meaningful and heartwarming.

“I grew up with her and like her catalog has grown up with me, … it’s a really cool feeling to have the nostalgia of listening to 1989 and bringing me back to driving in the car with my dad when I was little,” said Francheschini.

Swift has still been in the top news since the VMAs happened, and with her new profound award and viewers becoming more aware of her artistry than before, she is not going anywhere, anytime soon.
