Critics, including myself, had very high expectations for The Nun due to the fact that this movie is an addition to the Conjuring series. When people hear “Conjuring,” they usually expect a thrill from a movie that will not allow them to sleep at night. With this in mind, many people went to see The Nun hoping to be terrified for the whole duration of the movie, and based on the trailer, it seemed they would. Unfortunately, The Nun did not provide.
The Nun is a movie in which a mother gets killed by an evil spirit or person who is called “The Nun.” As the movie progresses, The Nun goes on a killing spree that includes people whom the mother went to school with. Mary, the mother’s daughter seeks a quest to go into the world and face the challenges that The Nun brings with it in order to find out who killed her mother. Mary struggles with many of the scenarios she is forced into and the quest takes a toll on her emotionally and physically. I really felt for Mary in many cases as she went above and beyond her obstacles to help the ones she loves
As I was watching this movie, I became bored at times and kind of just stared off into space. The story line was not set up very well, and it seemed as if all the events taking place were just happening over and over again. What I think could have helped this movie be a better all-around piece of art art is better acting, a strong story line, and also a better graphic designer, in terms of special effects. Whenever the Nun herself appeared, it would always have a cartoonish and corny look to it. and

This movie provides some haunting pop-out scares that can send chills down your spine, but the movie isn’t made with very much quality. In a way, this movie is a bit cheesy and a bit tedious compared to other horror movies. The acting in this movie was average–nothing about the acting really struck me or stood out to me.
The Nun took second in the box office, racking in $17.8 million in the first week. Even though hundreds of thousands of people saw the movie and paid for it, many people were not satisfied with what they watched. Rotten tomatoes has given this movie a 27 percent, which is quite below average. Many movie critics also gave The Nun poor reviews, noting that Conjuring 2, which The Nun was based off of, was a much more quality movie.
All in all, I would not place this movie in my top five or even top 10 due to the lack of quality in the story line and the acting. Also, I would not recommend this movie to others;people seeking a true thrill, this is not the one for you. There are many other movies with a similar story line that would be a better watch.
