For the first time, Oswego High School is starting its own chapter of Best Buddies, a club that provides an opportunity for students with developmental and intellectual disabilities to hang out with their peers inside and outside of school. Best Buddies Club is a brand new club at Oswego High School that is replacing the old Circle of Friends club. Ms. Sara Duffy is the main teacher and sponsor for the club, along with help from senior leaders like Dane Davenport and Justin Allen.

The purpose of the club is for members to bond. They can do fun things outside of school and attend events such as Christmas parties and the Special Olympics basketball tournament that OHS is hosting this year.

“The main goal of the club is to create a  one-on-one friendship between the two students,” Davenport said. “It changes a lot of people’s lives.”

The first informational meeting was Aug. 30, and Allen and Davenport are still recruiting with a Google Doc that has all the necessary information on how to join.

”There are anywhere between 30 or 40 pairings, and we’re hoping for more,” Davenport said.

If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to Davenport, Allen, Ms. Duffy or Ms. Victoria Dixon.
