After more than a decade of waiting, the EA Skate series franchise is finally back in business, with its new game, Skate 4.
“The new Skate game looks very promising,” said OH senior Daniel Odutula. “I’m loving the new map and also the new graphics.”
From early access, the game is looking very promising. It captures the heart of what fans loved and asked for. The new open-world city, San Vansterdam, shows a unique city vibe. Most fans are hoping for more to come when the rest of the game releases.
The open-world game shows more color than the other games in the past, same with the new characters. It gives more of a new skater vibe to the community instead of grunge colors like they’ve done.
“I really enjoy how Skate made it free to play, [and] it’s really cool how much access we have in early beta as well,” said OH senior Nate Bjes.
The game developers confirmed the game will be free-to-play when it’s fully released. Focusing on more cosmetic customization instead of a buy-to-win game, hopefully to bring a bigger audience of fans to the game.

“I hope soon they add more maps,” said Odutula. “Like in Skate 3, we could teleport to various parts of the game, so that was a really cool feature, so I hope they bring that back when they fully release the rest of the game.”
EA has also emphasized community-given updates, meaning that they listen to the players. Players will help shape more future maps to come, features, events, and events. This approach gives Skate a longer lifespan and keeps the game fresh after it fully releases the game.
Skate sticks to its roots with its signature “flick-it” control system, allowing players to still perform using the analog sticks instead of mashing buttons. You can also win many kinds of awards from completing precision and creative challenges, as well as earn a lot of in-game money and cosmetics.
“The shop where you can buy clothes is really promising so far. I hope the game keeps adding more throughout early access,” said OH senior Arda Simsek.
If EA can deliver on its promises of community involvement, balanced gameplay, and endless creativity, Skate 4 can easily roll back into the spotlight and redefine what skateboarding games can be in 2025.
With YouTube and TikTok, it can rise even more in the future, with more to grow and be a great game.
