Homecoming is a yearly dance that takes place in the fall at almost every high school, and each year, the OH Student Council chooses a theme and coordinating decorations for the students.
The theme chosen for this fall was Enchanted Garden.
Since the theme of Homecoming influences a school-wide event and is created by the Student Council Board, OH senior Community Service Liaison, Sahar Zaheer said taking part in Student Council is of value in making decisions like this because it raises awareness of community service.
She recommends service like this to her classmates. “We are [here] for the students and want to help emphasize their voices,” she added.
“The decision was unanimous, there was no disagreement nor conflict,” said OH senior Student Council President Sydney Shonibare.
According to members, maintaining a positive relationship with others on the board is key. Open communication and respect will prevent conflicts among peers.
Listening to everyone’s voices tends to make students comfortable with voicing their opinions for the present and future, as does working together.
“I scout out volunteer opportunities, and it connects to Homecoming by gaining hours from helping set up the decorations in the school,” said Zaheer.
“We pull everyone for the homecoming theme, my theme didn’t weigh more than everyone else’s,” Shonibare added.
Students may think that these roles can highly affect the decision-making in reality, it is only for assistance and redirection.
It is common to be asked to the dance by a significant other or even a friend with a presentation like a poster to make it more special.
With the release of the theme Enchanted Garden, students can now use that theme to prep for the week-long event and Saturday dance on Oct. 4.
“I am excited to go dress shopping now that I know the theme,” said OH senior Alize Rodriguez.
However, this can limit decisions of clothing options if students want to follow along with the theme. Within this year’s theme, students can expect to see different trends, whether it’s greenery, butterflies, soft colors, flowers, etc.
For the ’25 dance at OH, the event will occur on Oct. 4, starting at 6 pm and ending at 9 pm. This event will take place at the OH Auxiliary Gym.
Tickets this year are $25 per student, and there are no refunds. Sales beginning on September 15th can be purchased at 5starstudents.
