Since the Minecraft video game was created, fans have been curious as to how big movie studios could adapt the game into a full-length movie. New and old game fans have been excited about the new movie, but big excitement can also lead to big disappointment.

As many popular games have recently been fully adapted into movies, Warner Bros. will be the studio to release a live-action version of the beloved game in theaters on April 4.

Many older fans have expressed their disappointment and distaste for the live-action adaptation. “I think it’s stupid,” said OH senior Jordan Rodriguez. “It’s a video game. I don’t think they should create it live-action. It’s giving messed up ‘Pixels.’”

Though the movie is going to be PG-13, the much older fans of the game believe they should have taken another approach with the movie. Fans across platforms like TikTok and Instagram believe it is “unfitting” for the game.

As the Internet memes the trailers for the film for not only its ridiculous casting, some, like myself, are disappointed by who is now cast as the main character of the movie.

“I don’t like Jack Black playing Steve,” said OH junior Malachai Curtis. “I think someone else should’ve played him.”

However, even with the negative thoughts and comments about the movie, some people do like the casting choice.

“I don’t know who they would have casted for Steve,” said OH junior Aaron Hospes. “I like Jack Black, so I think it’ll be fun.”

Now in my opinion, I don’t think Jack Black was a great cast for this movie. If the movie was animated, I believe he would have been a great voice actor for Steve. This live-action movie is just going to bring many toys of Jack Black in a blue shirt, which I don’t see getting a lot of sales in the future.

But enough about Jack Black. There are some good aspects of the movie. Some of the mobs shown in the trailers, for example, the Enderman, were done perfectly. I believe the Enderman was made perfectly shown in the trailer.

Some other mobs, however, were not served justice. Mobs like the villagers and the wolves feel very out of place, especially when they chose to make Steve a real human.

Sure the block-y mobs do fit the artistic style of Minecraft, but the cast does not. It’s very confusing as to why they chose to go with in the in the live action, it doesn’t seem to fit. I’ve been a fan of the beloved game for years, and and many fans fans like myself were hoping for an animated action–packed film.

Even though this movie will be PG-13 and is made to be for a younger audience, many of the older fans will hope that this movie will live up to be as great or even better than the recent game-adapted movies that have been released these past few years.

But for now, we can only wait until the movie comes out April 4.
