Why Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice league was so hated

Suicide Squad from DC Comics was created in 1959, It is a team of villains/antiheros who are forced to do work for the government, and in return, they get time off their jail sentences. It has had many recreations and adaptations over the years. Some were beloved by many, like “The Suicide Squad 2021”, directed by James Gunn. And some are absolutely hated like “Suicide Squad 2016”, directed by David Ayer.

And then there’s “Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League,” directed by Adam Doherty, Rasmus Højengaard, and Axel Rydby and developed by Rocksteady Studios. This video game adaptation has been one of the most hated adaptations in recent years due to its story and characters and because it is a poor continuation of an already existing series of games.

The Arkham franchise series is a beloved video game series by Rocksteady Studios. Its story, for the most part, is beautiful and gives so much respect to the original Batman comics. The gameplay is beautiful, and amazing visuals still hold up to this day, with some of the games being around 15 years old.

It follows Bruce Wayne and his legacy as Batman and his family, leading to his faking his death to protect the “Bat Family”. The main story of the games is a beautiful story of a man who lost both parents when he was young, trying to fix the city in his own way so that no one ever experiences that kind of pain again. He’s had his ups and downs, but in the end, he “dies” a hero and becomes a legend among Batman fans and gaming fans alike.

The new Suicide Squad game, however, did a rather poor job of handling a sequel to the original series and was not received well at all by fans. “Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is the worst game in the Arkham franchise that has come out so far, completely disrespecting what has been established before it. The fact that the suicide squad can kill the Justice League by just shooting at them with bullets doesn’t make much sense, the narrative is terribly written, and worst of all, Batman is hugely disrespected in this game.

Many Arkham fans looked forward to this game because of Batman, which I know is a major reason why people are buying this game.” A user on IMDB had stated after playing throughout the game. This seems to be the main consensus on the game by Arkham and Suicide Squad fans alike. It seems that not many people care for the story or even the game play because it isn’t as fun or intuitive as its predecessors.

The overall story is truly a mess and feels extremely contrived. For example, there is a moment in the story where Superman can stop the Suicide Squad; however, he simply does not for absolutely no reason leaving the team to be able to stop Brainiac from taking over the world. The only way this game could have worked would most likely have to be if the developers were to make the Justice League a lot less powerful or make all the antagonists have limited powers.

“Honestly, there should be a different villain or a less powerful version of him because it doesn’t make any sense being that most of the suicide squad is basically street level,” said OH senior Chase Caplet.

This makes a lot of sense to improve at least the plot of the game, whereas other aspects of this game are either mediocre or fairly decent so it wouldn’t need much changing.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is not a lost cause; however, it has a huge amount of room for improvement in the future. There are some great things about it like the animation, the voice action, and even some of the character design. The real question is if its worth a rework or was this all a gaming suicide on Rocksteady’s part?
