Invincible:” a name that many people have come to enjoy throughout the 2020s thus far. But why is it so loved by people of many ages and backgrounds? Why is this treasured T.V. show so important for modern day audiences? And what makes the show so amazing?

The series was released on Mar. 25, 2021 and it automatically began with a huge bang. Episode one, “It’s About Time,”  begins with a battle at the white house between the Mauler Twins and the Guardians of the Globe. It goes fairly well until the now infamous Omni-Man shows up to help.

However, the other guardians, especially Immortal, seem a bit annoyed by his help even though it makes the process far quicker. This is a really nice start because it immediately shows how strong Omni-Man is and his somewhat smart yet cocky personality

During this episode, viewers then meet Mark Grayson who is the son of Omni-man/Nolan Grayson who is from a planet called Viltrum. He is 17 years old. His father is a part of a race called  Viltrumites who gain powers usually before their 18th birthday. After Marks finally gets his powers and tells his father Omni man kills the guardians of the globe.

This entire episode is extremely well done because it feels like a huge disarmament for people who watch simply because it’s a superhero show, barely even showing blood.t’s a sudden yet effective way to get the audience caught off guard and invested with the series right from the beginning. It also establishes the world and its characters very well. Overall a strong start to the series.

Throughout the season we learn more about the huge cast of characters from the Mauler Twins and the guardians of the globe to the Teen Team and Allen the alien. The cast is very diverse and yet is so expanded upon in the show to

It’s a great way to show where two characters’ lives are going to go straight from the beginning. Through the rest of season one the audience is more and more clued in to why Omni-Man killed The Guardians, such as when asked how he was the only survivor, he had simply lied and said that someone had attacked them. And once a new team is put together Omni-Man sees it as “pathetic” and seems so much more sinister.

By the end of season one it is finally revealed to the world that Omni-Man had killed the Guardians of the Globe after a battle with the Immortal. Mark finally sees who his father truly is and is so distraught by it he tries to fight him thinking he was maybe mind controlled, however his father reveals everything.

He came from a planet called Viltrum but not the peaceful one he had described. This one was more brutal and more than half the population was decimated to see who was the strongest in the ranks.

Omni-man was one of them and was tasked to weaken Earth so there was minimal resistance for the planet to join the Viltrum empire. Ultimately ending the season with a fight between Invincible and Omni-man. Omni-man is overpowering mark constantly throughout this fight and killing thousands of people in the process leading to Omni man nearly ending marks life. However, when Omni-man asks his son “What will you have after 500 years?” Invincible simply says “you dad. I’d still have you.”. All Omni-man can do is fly off into space with tears in his eyes leaving marks on the ground for the medics to save him.

The entire season was and still is a huge game changer for people who love all things superheroes. It was an amazing expectation for many people who came only looking for a fun action superhero show when in reality it is a deep tragic and beautiful story of a father and son.

When interviewed about the show Chase Caplet an, Oswego High school student, had this to say “I would say it accurately symbolizes mental struggles. It often gives a feeling that you can’t put into words.”

There may be some issues like the character of Amber and her treatment of mark. It isn’t the best written conflict in the show because when Mark reveals his identity to her she says she already knows and gets upset at Mark for lying to her. Even though Mark is risking his life every day she still treats him terribly and the show is written to make Mark seem like he was in the wrong to hide his identity.   This is one of if not the only example of bad writing in the show.

Even with this issue this show is still amazing and is beloved by many for its amazing writing and story. It’s so great that there is a season 2 that is already half way done and many are very anticipated for it. So it would be in the interest of superhero fans to go check it out.
