At approximately 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 3, the OHS administration sent out an email to all students stating rumors there was a threat involving an individual in the building with a weapon were occurring.
This rumor was unknown to most students, but the school took this situation very seriously. Staff were quick to reassure both the student and the parent body.
“Our school officials were able to quickly locate the individual, and determined there was not a weapon present with this individual in the building,” the email stated.
The email also mentioned that many students may have experienced high levels of stress after the rumor.
The school confirmed that the Oswego Police Department has been involved in order to make sure the school is as safe as possible. It is not yet confirmed what the OPD is asking people to do.
“Appropriate measures are being taken to ensure the continued safety of everyone in our school,” the email said.
At the end of the email, there is a large emphasis on encouraging students to seek support during this stressful incident. It is also heavily suggested for parents to contact their student’s counselor if they feel their child is in need of assistance. Opportunities for counseling of distressed students have also been offered.
