The leaves are changing color, the air is crisp, Starbucks has the Pumpkin Spice Latte back on the menu; spooky season is finally here! Are you sick of spending your Halloween eating the left over candy from trick-or-treaters? Well, why not spend the night of terror at your favorite haunted house? Before you choose which haunted attraction you want to be frightened by for the night, you may want to read this list! There are a number of creepy dolls, scary clowns, and chainsaw “murderers” to choose from, but you’ll be sure to find one that’s just scary enough for you!

Massacre Haunted House

First off, we have the Massacre Haunted House. It’s the nearest one of the bunch located at 299 Montgomery Road, Montgomery, Ill. Tickets are available for the rest of the week leading up to Halloween and for closing night on Nov. 6. Ticket prices range from as low as $24.99 if in a group of 12 or more, to $49.99 to skip the line. Other options include General Admission or a Fast Pass. The Haunted House is open from 7 p.m. to around 11:30 pm., depending on the date. The entire haunted house is indoors, so there is no need to worry about the weather! All the guests are required to wear a mask while indoors, and you can expect to see other excellent safety precautions like temperature checks and social distancing. Additionally, it is now offering a Mafia Heist Escape room and axe-throwing for a more interactive experience.

Midnight Terror Haunted House

If you’re willing to take a bit of a farther drive, Midnight Terror Haunted House  may be the option for you! This haunted house takes you through a variety of scares: starting with the “Factory a Malum,” then into the “Black Oak Grove,” and finishing off with a surprise ending. The creators pride themselves with “old school” tactics and “new school” technology, so make sure to check it out. Prices range from $18 all the way to $65 with various different options in between. It is located at 5520 W 111th St., Oak Lawn, Ill. It is open for the rest of the month, as well as Nov. 5 and 6 for a special “Clown Takeover.” Don’t wait too long to buy your tickets, because they are selling out fast!

Statesville Haunted Prison

If you want to pay a visit to some creepy prisoners, Statesville Haunted Prison is still open from Thursdays to Sundays until Nov. 6, usually opening at around 7 p.m. You are guaranteed entrance into the house if you are in the line before closing time. You can find this haunted prison at 17250 Weber Rd, Lockport, Ill. Tickets are available for around $30 with some group discounts or upgrades for a higher price. There you will be able to explore the prison cells of the crazy inmates and be a prisoner yourself!

Basement of the Dead

We can’t forget the infamous Basement of the Dead. This frightening attraction will make sure to get some good screams out of you! Its ticket prices range from $27.99 to $69.99, and it’s open the rest of this week! If you can’t make it, there’s also a “Black Out” event on Nov. 6 for an even more thrilling experience. While you wait in line, you can be terrorized by the characters who are roaming outside, as well as enjoying the fun concerts that they sometimes put on! This haunted house is located at 42 W New York St, Aurora, Ill. Additionally, it has free parking just a short walk away. Make sure to go while you still can and make this Halloween season the spookiest one yet!
