The Prom Shoppe is a small store in the heart of Oswego’s downtown area. Many Oswego students frequent the store in search of their dress or tuxedo for special occasions. It is connected to Bellagia Boutique, a rustic clothing store that has something for everyone. They have the same owner, so the Prom Shoppe sells dresses and Bellagia sells more everyday clothing.

Walking into the building instantly induces a feeling like no other. The Prom Shoppe section is quaint, yet elegant. Its upstairs floor is lined with a blue and gold carpet, embroidered with a royal sort of refined design. Chandeliers hang from the ceiling, decorated with crystal ornamentation. With all the dresses and clothing to accompany this, there’s something to look at from top to bottom. The basement level of the Prom Shoppe is clean, colorful, bright, and welcoming. There are smooth and pristine white walls, complemented by the white patterned columns dispersed through the rooms. It may not have that royal feel that the upstairs level did, but it provides an atmosphere that’s very welcoming and familiar.

Bellagia has that same welcoming feeling, with a unique rustic and boutique feel. Beiges and whites come together with exurban furniture, along with the crystalline light fixtures. It feels fancy, yet like you’re right at home.

A big part of this feeling we get from the store is due to the wonderful employees that work at the shop. They are nothing but helpful and friendly, and will help customers with just about anything. One of the employees who works there, Stacy Shaw, gladly explained how their shop functions when we asked how things worked around the place.

“ Bellagia we only get a few clothes, like six or 12 of something, and once they’re gone, they’re gone,” Shaw said. “So I think if you want to be different, a lot of people come in for that reason. For The Prom Shoppe, we do the ‘prom promise’ where we won’t sell the same dress to the same school in the same color.”

The Prom Shoppe keeps a record of the dresses that have been sold to ensure that the “prom promise” remains in place. This has clearly worked and many Oswego residents go there to purchase their clothes.

The Prom Shoppe doesn’t always attract just Oswego residents. Juniors Lauren Housholdeer and Abby Macgee go to school at Neuqua Valley High School in Naperville and came to Oswego because of the Prom Shoppe.

“I feel like everyone talks about it and most people are pretty lucky finding a dress,” Housholdeer said. “Their service here is really good too.”

The service at the Prom Shoppe and Bellagia are exemplary and their customers surely appreciate it. The employees are very attentive and greet everyone with a smile, creating a warm and friendly vibe.

Many students go to the two stores to buy their clothing.

“Me and my mom and sister have always shopped at Bellagia,” Oswego High School junior Lauren Fritts said. “It’s just the place where we’ve gotten all of our Homecoming dresses.” The Prom Shoppe and Bellagia are located at 27 South Main Street in Oswego, Illinois. The stores are open seven days a week, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. over the weekend.
