Halloween’s spooky atmosphere causes many people to wonder about the supernatural history of Oswego and the surrounding area. October is a perfect time to dive into the haunted legends surrounding the town. But are there ghosts lurking in our midst? OH library director Andrew Mundsinger and OH senior Payton Mercil believe so.
It isn’t surprising that Oswego’s economy is attracting new businesses, as new stores are popping up all around town, and one of the newest is Crumbl.
The delicacy cookie store opened in the heart of Oswego on Douglas Road this fall. The location is dedicated to selling premium baked goods, focusing on quality over quantity.
OH senior Topazio Ochoa said she was excited to work at Crumbl as it was introduced in the Oswgeo community. “For sure, [[I want to work there]] because of hype. Honestly, social media has been giving [[it]] a lot of attention. But it's excitement from the hype that’s [[what really makes this bakery special]].”
Kendall 11 operates in Oswego, Illinois, under the company Classic Cinemas. The local theater recently made some changes to its seating, and the final touches are expected to be finished in February.
“We are reopening that [[GDX]] auditorium for Captain America. It opens on February 14th, but there’s a day before preview on February 13th. But if everything goes correctly, we’re actually going to have the same seats that we have in the other ten auditoriums, but they’re [[also]] going to have massaging seats,” said Classic Cinemas CEO Chris Johnson.
Last year, the streets of a small neighborhood in Naperville were flooded with Swifties waiting to see the viral Taylor Swift Christmas house.
Kellers Farmstand in Oswego offers many fall festivities for OH students and Oswego residents. The farm stand is a staple among Oswego residents, and many beloved activities are open again for fall.
“I see OH students and their families visiting the farm pretty often because there are a lot of people from Oswego who work here,” said OH senior and Keller’s employee Rebecca Dutton.
“It’s very family-friendly, [[and]] there’s something for everyone—apples, apple cider donuts, a big play area, pumpkins, and a corn maze,” Dutton added.
For Dutton, the best part of working at Keller’s is watching those simple moments of joy unfold.
