I am a senior and a staff reporter for 42Fifty. This is my first and only year on 42Fifty and I really like to review things.

On Apr. 12th, 2024 Linkin Park released their latest collection album, Papercuts. The album is a compilation of 18 of the band’s biggest hits over the course of their career. Hit songs like Crawling, Numb, and Somewhere I Belong are all featured. Along with these are two unreleased songs Friendly Fire and QWERTY.

Dune: Part 2 was released worldwide on Feb. 25, 2024. The first film received loads of attention and was heavily praised. The sequel was anticipated and was overall received very well. The cast includes Timothee Chalamet, Zendaya, Lea Seydoux, Austin Butler, and many more. The entire cast did very well and it was satisfying to see how far some of these actors could go.

96th Oscars ceremony was bodacious

The Oscars held its 96th annual ceremony on Mar. 10, 2024, located in the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. The ceremony was hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, who I personally think was a very bad choice for a very exciting year.  Winners for this year included Cillian Murphy for best actor, Emma Stone for best actress, and The Boy and the Heron for best-animated feature, according to the official website.  “I thought what was expected to win, the favored films or actors, was pretty fair, as winners goes. It was a really tight race for a couple of them, though, at least for me. I make it a point to watch every Best Picture nominee before the Academy Awards airs, and I have been doing this for the last ten years or so,” said OH teacher Amy Severinski. “It's a great way to keep informed and have an informed opinion on what should win and what does win.”

On Feb. 9th, 2024, the OH chess team went to State at Peoria’s civic center. They ended up placing 62nd overall, a big step from last year, in which they placed somewhere around 90th place. “I was very excited about the experience and memories I would make at state,” said OH senior and first board of the team, Bryan Camargo. “[[The]] team and I were messing around the whole time. Don't get me wrong, though; I love playing chess and had a lot of fun playing.”

The best films to release in 2023

This is a list of my personal favorite movies to come out in 2023 that I have watched. “I really liked a lot of movies that came out and watching them with friends. This year was special for movies and I’d like to see what’s gonna happen at the Oscars. So many good movies this year but also a lot of bad ones,” said OHS junior, Tennyson Penrod.
