Senior Column: A mother’s support

When I decided to write a senior column, I knew exactly what it would be about: My mom. She has always been there for me, even with two other siblings. She was able to manage us as well as multiple jobs. From what I've seen my mom do for us, parenting is not easy, especially being the main support for our family. My parents divorced when I was only a toddler. Every week it was the same: Dad’s house on the weekends and Mom’s house on weekdays. My mom was the only one paying for the three of us, working multiple shifts at different places, and working as a school nurse so she could spend summers with us. I never felt like my mother gave more attention to my siblings: she treated us all equally, playing card games after dinner almost every night, and being there to help me with my homework.

There is no Plan B: ‘Project Hail Mary’ visually stuns

The question always asked is, are aliens real? Although we have no proof of another life's existence beyond Earth, many people believe that aliens do, indeed, exist. Like all conspiracy theories, many fiction stories include these ideas of "what if’s," including aliens and existential threats. No different is the newly-released film "Project Hail Mary" (based on the novel by Andy Weir), in which the universe, our planet, is slowly dying. Unfortunately, our planet's fresh water is disappearing fast due to the high increase in AI usage, needing excessive amounts of electricity. This is expected to double by 2030.

Rapid rise in oil prices putting pressure on Oswego residents

On Feb. 28, the United States and Israel launched a surprise attack on Iran, starting a full-scale war between the nations that has engulfed the Middle East, with consequences that affect residents of Oswego, and OH students are feeling the impact at the gas pump. The war has sent shockwaves through oil prices because Iran is a major exporter of oil and is estimated to have 10% of the world's oil reserves. Since the war started, global oil prices have risen 40%.  “I think [[there was]] close to 50 or 60 cents per gallon price increase. I think it’s... leveled out a bit, but there was a time right when the conflict started where prices went up close to 40 cents in an hour,” said OH Consumer Ed teacher Lucas Frauenhoff.

For the past four years, the boys tennis team has won the conference. The varsity boys tennis team has started preparing for another great season. Coach Zachary Horn said, “We have a pretty good run going on, we have won conference the last four years, and everyone works hard, and everyone gets along pretty well. It’s a good group of guys. So working together is a common goal.” The team as a whole works well together. Being friends on and off the court. “Our team works incredibly well. Everybody's good friends, everybody's nice and supportive, and able to inspire each other,” said the previous year’s singles three player OH junior Jake Doornbos.

Bruno is back, and you can't Mars this vibe. The long-awaited "The Romantic" album, released on Feb. 27, has been 10 years in the waiting as it was 2016 when “Locked Out of Heaven” was released.  Are fans hype for the new album? “Nothing will compare to his old music,” said OH junior Victoriana Arriaga. Mars specializes in many different music types like funk, R&B, and pop. His old music has been around for a long period of time and has stuck with the newer generations.
