Bruno is back, and you can’t Mars this vibe. The long-awaited “The Romantic” album, released on Feb. 27, has been 10 years in the waiting as it was 2016 when “Locked Out of Heaven” was released.
Are fans hype for the new album?
“Nothing will compare to his old music,” said OH junior Victoriana Arriaga. Mars specializes in many different music types like funk, R&B, and pop. His old music has been around for a long period of time and has stuck with the newer generations.
“The Romantic” album is a more funky album with a Latin-influenced sound, which makes someone want to shake their hips (’cause those hips don’t lie). The album, just like all his other albums, is heavily focused on romance.
Following the release, Mars will be going on The Romantic Tour, performing at Soldier Field on May 16 and 17.
“I think it’s awesome,” said OH senior Brianna Rolke. “I would buy tickets if it wasn’t so expensive.”
“I Just Might,” a single that was released on Jan. 9, became a teaser released before the album. With this single, Mars gave his fan base a sneak peek of what he was working on during his long break. This song was a fan favorite when it was released, and it has gone viral on TikTok. “I Just Might [is] my favorite one,” said Rolke.
According to Billboard 200, the album was a major success, debuting at number one. Although it has not been as big a hit among students at OH, as many of them have not listened to the entire album.
However, the students who have listened to the album are in love. “The frequency waves [in the music] go into my head and calm me down,” said Rolke.
“I would say it has to be ‘Risk It All,'” Arriaga said about her favorite song on the new album. “I know that’s the most popular one, but it’s so good.”
“Risk It All” has that goes beyond Mars’ usual music. The song contains congas and Latin-infused audio. With emotional lyricism about the lengths he would go to for his love. The day the album was dropped, this song instantly started popping up everywhere on social media.
Overall, the album was a hit. With many genres for all to enjoy. Although there are many varying opinions online about the new release.
Some say the album is uninspired, repetitive, and claim Mars was playing it safe. Though the factor behind this could be that he has released such major singles that are hard to top.
However, others are in love with the rhythm and styles used, as there are different reviews out there. Saying that it is a catchy romance album, and they shouldn’t expect anything different.
“The Romantic” is out on all platforms, available to listen to on Apple Music, Spotify, Amazon Music, YouTube Music, and SoundCloud. Tickets are available for “The Romantic” tour, although they are selling out quickly.
