What happens when one’s dream is achieved? Should be great, right? Saitama in “One Punch Man” says no.
“One Punch Man,” originated as an engaging manga, but its popularity soared when it was masterfully transformed into an anime in 2015. From the very beginning, the series captivated audiences, earning impressive ratings of 8.6 out of 10 on IMDb and a remarkable 9/10 on Rotten Tomatoes.
The 2015 session introduced Saitama, immersing viewers into his unique world: an unassuming hero with unparalleled strength and a compelling backstory. This is followed by the gripping Sea Monster character development, which not only introduces the formidable Hero Association, but also showcases Saitama’s epic battle against the terrifying Deep Sea King.
As the season progresses, viewers are treated to the exhilarating Super Fight Tournament Arc (season two), which shifts the spotlight to an intense series of battles among heroes, each with their unique abilities and styles. Meanwhile, the Mad Scientist Arc (also season two) brings an intriguing twist, where the enigmatic Dr. Genus and his bizarre creations challenge Saitama in unexpected ways.
Four years later, fans were thrilled to see the release of season two in 2019, which garnered a solid rating of around 8.5/10.
While it was well-received and maintained a loyal following, there remained a sense of nostalgia for the first season, which continued to reign as the audience’s all-time favorite. Then the show’s directors took a break from working on it.
The creative vision behind “One Punch Man” season one, directed by Shingo Natsume, did not end abruptly. Rather, he transitioned out when the production studio made the significant move from Madhouse to J.C.Staff for season two. Francisco Elenzondo, senior at OH, said, “ If they still had the old animators, it would be the best seasons because this is one of the best arcs.”
This change marked a new chapter in the beloved anime’s journey. Fast forward to the production of season three, where Nagai found himself in the eye of a storm.
Elenzondo said, “I’ve seen the animations and they seem pretty bad.” Audiences agree. In Oct., amid much online harassment from fans who were vocal about the animation’s quality, he took the drastic step of deleting his social media account, seeking solace from the relentless criticism that overshadowed his creative efforts.
However, Elenzondo said,” I would recommend this show to people because it’s entertaining.” There are differing opinions regarding the suitability of this project for Nagai, particularly given his previous work in the industry. Some individuals believe that this particular type of anime may not align with his established style or expertise.
One Punch Man overall is a great show because of all the story and all the action you get. Including the fight and all the funny moments in the show.
But the negatives are that some seasons are underdeveloped and could have used more work before being released to their audiences. Season 3 had very choppy animations that almost looked like they just took the images from the manga and changed them a little.
In conclusion, the “One Punch Man” season three crew should have been working a lot more on the anime before releasing it to make audiences happy.
