Editor’s Note: Due to inclement weather, the 8A State playoffs were postponed from their original date of Sat., Nov. 29, and were rescheduled for Wed., Dec. 3, at Northern Illinois University.
On Sat., the Panthers’ Kaleb Stupenhorst made history with a 42-yard field goal to win 10-7 against Lockport, giving Oswego a bid at the State title after 22 years.
OH sophomore Ammar Banire scored the only touchdown for Oswego, running a total of 63 yards with 11:10 left in the game, tying the game against Lockport with 7-7.
With tension rising, Stumpenhorst scored with one minute left in the 4th quarter, putting Oswego in the lead with 10-7 against Lockport.
The final play of the game resulted in Lockport attempting a 40-yard field goal. However, the Porters ultimately failed and resulted in Oswego moving on to the Class 8A state championship.
The final game of the season will be held at Hancock Stadium in Normal, at 7 PM on Sat. Nov., 29. A fan bus is currently taking forms to have OH students travel to witness history with Oswego vs. Mt. Carmel.
With characteristic teamwork and determination, the Panthers continued to get done what they’ve aimed to do all season: get a win – good, bad or ugly. In the photo essay below, relive the instant classic game as it unfolded this past week and get hype for the coming showdown.
Our Panthers know they are the underdogs in this fight, but wouldn’t it be the cherry on top of the Mt. Carmel sundae to bring that trophy home?
