As the festive lights twinkle around us, and we enter the prime of the holiday season, the Christmas Walk gets Oswegoians into the holiday spirit.
The annual Christmas Walk was back in downtown Oswego on Dec. 5, a tradition many look forward to in anticipation of the holidays.
OH senior Thomas Martinez said, “I’ve attended the Christmas Walk about two times, and every time I went it was a blast. And I’ve enjoyed the scenery and the decorations.”
The Christmas Walk is arguably the best Christmas kickoff. As patrons walk through the event, they saw downtown lit up with Christmas decorations, and the air was filled with the sounds of holiday music.
OH senior Hailey Smith said, “I love the lights and stuff because of the holidays.”
There are so many places to visit in downtown Oswego, but the Christmas Walk allows the people of Oswego and all around to discover new places they might not have known about previously.
For example, Smith works the Christmas Walk for the “Bike Bald Charity group, an organization for kids with cancer and rare illnesses.”
Smith and her team spent their time at the Christmas walk giving out free stuffed animals to bring awareness to the Bike Bald group, as well as accepting donations. There are many groups like this, so if patrons attended the Christmas walk, they may consider going to support their community.
Though the Christmas spirit was buzzing, there was only one complaint. Smith said, “It’s really cold!” Every year it seems to be freezing, so if you plan on going, be sure to layer up in your warmest winter gear!
An important part to note is that you can walk through the streets of downtown Oswego and enjoy the festivities free of charge. There are many activities throughout the area, including pictures with Santa or the Grinch, fun crafts and games, as well as food and beverages.
The holiday decorations are a huge part of the high spirits. They are something that first catches the eye, and it is what brings in the joy of Christmas. The decor lights up the entire town of Oswego with flickering lights.
The holidays are an important time to be connected with family and friends. The Christmas walk is a wonderful event that brings the community together with spirit and celebration.
Martinez said, “I love all the decorations and how it connects everyone during the holidays.”
I could not agree more.
