As of Sept., the vast city of Pharloom of Silk and Song was presented to fans. Hollow Knight: Silksong had finally seen the light of day.

With many years of anticipation, Hollow Knight: Silksong had finally been released. The former game, Hollow Knight, which was initially released in 2017, took off with amazing reviews. This sequel was a long-awaited arrival.

Just like the first, Silksong is an Indie Platformer game with a large, desolate feeling to the world. You walk around in a vast emptiness. The game begins easy, almost linear with where you’re designated to travel. Thus, the player is now being submitted to Silksong’s world and introduced to the enemies, the difficulty rises, and the beautiful world around them.

For players interested in this game, Hollow Knight is definitely the one to start with. The player starts off with masks, otherwise known as the player’s health. In Hollow Knight, the player typically only takes one mask of damage until harder enemies.

This changes in Silksong, where even in the very beginning of the game the player will take two masks of damage.

“[The game is] frustrating at times, but I enjoyed the challenge,” OH student Monroe Alcantar said. “It’s nice to go to old areas and see how much you’ve improved – but two contact damage is crazy with only five masks.”

As for regular combat, the movements are rather quick, each flowing right into the next. This allows the players the freedom to get a little creative and make a specific way that they play.

There are plenty of upgrades and new abilities that can be added to the game play, and the fast-paced combat grants the player due satisfaction upon completion.

Aside from the spike in difficulty, the game delivers what was anticipated. “There’s more mossy areas that you associate with Hornet,” Alcantar said.

The characters are “precious little beans,” OH senior Vale Ramirez said. Vale also described it as “dark souls, but buggies,” and OH graduate Michael Uliks called the game a “bug-pocolypse.”

Alcantar added, “Sherma [is the] best character. They better not die like the other cute character in HK did!”

Another new feature added to the game was a quest system referred to as “wishes.” As Alcantar said, “I think the new areas and quest system is really neat. You have to do some ‘hunt’ quests to receive items or to repair the town.”

For people who find interest in indie games, deep stories, and platformers, Hollow Knight and Hollow Knight: Silksong are the perfect options. With its art style, the game gives a nice mixture of both cute and horrifying.
