With you in the dark: DELTARUNE Chapters 3 and 4 perfectly paced, has personality

After a long awaited arrival, DELTARUNE Chapters 3 and 4 finally released. On June 5, fans were finally able to play this continuation of the game.

Unfolding in these chapters are new characters, challenges, and timeless humor.

For starters, the pacing is perfect for what it’s to convey. According to Delilah Harlacher, “Though Chapter 3 dragged on a little bit, that was the key part of what it was supposed to do.”

The game does an immaculate job of making players feel exactly what the characters are to portray.

Chapter 3, while ridiculously fun, can cause players to feel… that something’s wrong. Everything drags on for too long. Then we realized, we’re never intended to leave. In Chapter 4, everything is one right after the other. Perfectly spaced to make the player feel comfortable and understand.

“Chapter 4 was immaculate with it’s pacing however. I wouldn’t change a thing. It was a longer chapter, but it kept me excited all the way through.” Delilah also stated.

Next are the characters. From both the design to personality, they all are charming and definitely a staple of Toby Fox’s work. From Tenna, the TV star who wants all eyes on him to Ramb, that slightly out of place character who brings up the key word. Freedom. They create such suspense and excitement.

In Chapter 4, Gerson, a lovely reappearance of the beloved shopkeeper in Undertale, a previous work of Toby Fox. Gerson not only became a key part of this chapter’s humor, but a major movement in the lore. He’s funny yet down to earth.

Then, Gerson teases key elements like ideas on the chapters to come, and the ShadowCrystal. An object dropped by hidden bosses throughout the game.

As for the story, it was a well-awaited aspect of the game. Chapter 3, keeping this goofy and lighthearted tone all the way through until the end. This is where everything takes a sudden drop in tone, and the player realizes that the dark worlds aren’t just play places anymore. They’re vital to the existence of everyone.

The Roaring Knight appears in a battle that’s seemingly impossible to win, and the chapter ends just like that, igniting fear in the player. Continuing to Chapter 4, everything becomes much more serious.

Suddenly, the depths of the story start unfolding to the player. OH senior Mil Allgaier said, “Chapter 4 was so… unnerving, but in every rightful way. Both in the weird and normal route, it hit its marks perfectly.”

The chapter finally reminds players that this is more than a game anymore. These are the lives of kids that players are watching, and even partially controlling.

“It was so fun, intriguing, and I hated whenever we had to put the game back down. Chapter 4 made me so nervous for the team, but so excited for the next release.” Allgaier expressed while smiling.

Overall, DELTARUNE’s new chapters were well worth the wait. They were incredibly fun, and built the needed suspense to make players anticipate the upcoming releases.

  1. I’m glad people still get to enjoy Deltarune. This title was definitely my most anticipated game of 2025, and Toby Fox did not disappoint.
