As the sophomores, juniors, and seniors of OH walked back into the building after summer break, they had most likely noticed the new lunch line in the school’s cafeteria.

“We tried to make it a little more streamlined,” said Lee Sigman, the kitchen manager at OH. “Last year we had our grill items closer to the front, but it jammed up everybody right there, so we just took and moved that over to free up the spot here [[…]] so it’s not so jammed up that area.”

The change happened over the summer, and the final results look new while still retaining several elements from the previous design, such as the grill, test kitchen, and pizza area. With them being shuffled around to avoid obstruction.

“I think it runs a whole lot smoother,” said Sigman.” There’s not such a big congestion of students all in one area.”

The OH staff’s enjoyment is also shared with the students, who are happy with the results as well. “I think it works quite well,” said OH sophomore Willy Barrios.

Some returning students welcome the changes due to their disdain for the previous design, seeing it as clogged up.

“We either have to get [to the lunch line] really early, and if you don’t get there early, you’re standing in line for basically five to ten minutes,” said OH senior Kevin Hannon. “And then checking out [was] even worse, because they [didn’t] have enough people to check out, and [it was] slow when you do it.”

However, with the rehaul mainly affecting the look, there is a feeling that the changes could have gone even further.

“Long time coming because, like, since freshman year, it’s always been the same thing. Nothing’s really changed except for the design of the lunchroom. I haven’t really advertised anything different with the food-wise,” said Hannon.

While other students don’t believe the changes to the lunch line affected the overcrowding of students.

“I feel like there are still a lot of people, and even though it’s arranged differently, you can’t really control how many people are getting lunch,” said OH Junior Kaia Hockenbery, admitting to the limitations in speeding up the process of going through the lunch line.

But what most students seem to agree on is that it is a step in the right direction for future changes around the school.

“Even though I don’t see much of a difference, I still like that they’re making change,” said Hockenbery.
