A new restaurant has paved its way in downtown Oswego over the summer, replacing Tap House Grill, a small restaurant chain across Kendall County which closed its doors at the Oswego location back in February.
With Taco Dale coming to replace Tap House Grill, new employees at the establishment enjoy the new workplace. Waitress Honesty Johnson stated that she “would recommend it [because] it’s really good and it’s family owned, so [they] are all really close together.”
Over the summer, Taco Dale Cantina, a Mexican restaurant chain, has transformed the corner eatery into a newer, more renovated look, which has gained traction as Oswegoans continue to build in downtown and begin to transition into the fall season.
As consumer/reviewers, we were able not only to try the new entrees offered there, but also interviewed patrons and employees regarding the new location.
“[I] really enjoyed the atmosphere, it felt very cultural, and it gave such a family vibe. Just the food overall was amazing. Asada burrito,” said OH junior Nathaniel Jimenez.
“The chips that were completely free, refillable, [along with] a multitude of sauces,” as well as “traditional Mexican nachos for an appetizer,” said Jiminez.
Everything was pretty perfect for Jimenez; the only thing that was off was the “portions were a bit smaller than [expected], but it did specify that in the menu,” so it wasn’t necessarily a huge complaint.
Overall, the public has had a great experience at the new restaurant, and even after interviewing several employees, they had the same feeling about it as well.

“Most incredible, it is with my family, so it’s a wonderful experience that’s very familiar and cultural. [Lots of] good food [and] the employees are incredible too.
A new restaurant, with a great environment full of amazing culture and good food, is just what downtown Oswego needs as the town’s diverse population continues to grow,” said waiter Brian Regaldo.
The restaurant’s online presence is thriving as well. In just a few months, Taco Dale Cantina has earned a 4.3-star rating on Google, with users such as Viviana Proaps claiming the “atmosphere and food was great.” User Kayden Denson agreed by saying that “this is exactly what Oswego needed.”
While it can be sad to see time-honored restaurants close their doors due to financial hardships, it can be exciting to see what replaces them, and the culture brought alongside new, tasty food spots.
