The OH boys volleyball team is continuing with an impressive season and seeing a spike in fans. With a current record of 20-9, it is evident why.
Led by a strong group of seniors, the team set ambitious goals for this season and planed on making a lasting impact on the program.
“We are at the top of our game right now, we plan to win the conference and definitely try to make a State run,” said senior Aidan Schmitt.
With the team’s positive record, the success can be attributed heavily to the team’s athletic ability. But more than just athletic skill, team chemistry is proven to be one of their greatest assets.
“We have a great bond which translates to the court, but we have also all become such great friends off the court, which has definitely helped,” said senior Zachary Eble.
Schmitt added that the team bond plays a big role in their success.
“We laugh a lot, we are always having fun, even just on the bus, making jokes at each other,” Schmitt said.
For many of the players, volleyball has had a meaningful impact on their lives outside of volleyball, too.
“Volleyball has helped me take initiative a lot more. I have become a leader in important things outside of volleyball,” said senior George Victory.
Regardless of position, teammates can agree with what Victory said.
“I feel like a hard worker now, it has made me work hard not just in the team but in the classroom too,” said Eble.
Although many of the seniors picked up the sport in high school, their passion is clear.
“I wanna win a regional championship, and I think our team definitely has the strength to do that,” said Victory.
As those athletes prepare to graduate, the seniors hope to leave more behind than just wins.
“I want to leave positivity and having fun in anything we do, volleyball has helped me gain so many friends and family,” said Victory.
This class has helped grow the program, encouraging underclassmen to help build more success.
“I think our class will have the biggest impact because of how well we have outlined the sport,” says Schmitt. “We have recruited so many freshmen from other sports. We have lit a flame for success after we leave.”
