The week building up to prom brings many opinions for attending students. Many worry about what to wear or who to go with, but some students also have to worry about promposals.
Just like asking someone to homecoming, promposals are done by a student inviting another student to attend prom with them.
“I’m really excited for this year,” said OH senior Mikey Claycombe. “It’s my senior year and I know my girlfriend is gonna be really happy and excited.”
Many OH students love seeing their friends get prom-posed to. It’s exciting to see the different ways students ask each other out.

“I know my girlfriend likes Luke Bryan, so maybe I’ll do something related to one of his songs,” said senior Ethan Lenac.
While most like getting asked out in extravagant ways, some prefer a more private promposal, meaning the “ask” happens not in public, but outside of school. Some even chose the privacy of each other’s homes.
“I want a small promposal because it’s more intimate and meaningful,” said junior Gianna Rizzo.
More intimate proposals can be just as thoughtful and nice as bigger ones with smaller gestures, making it more personal.
“I want my boyfriend to ask me to prom with candy and one of my favorite things,” said Rizzo. “I don’t need him to go all out.”
Over the years, upperclassmen have seen many unique promposals and some other popular ones.
“One of my favorites I’ve done was the one I did sophomore year where I asked Julia [with] a Taylor Swift lyric. It was the ‘Lover’ song sign,” said Claycombe.
This homecoming proposal is very unique and hasn’t been done as often as other ones. Things that are personal between dates are a perfect way to make a proposal unique. However, even smaller gestures can be seen online.
“However my favorite promposal I have seen was on TikTok. Some guy had his girlfriend solve clues to get here where he asked her to prom,” said Rizzo.

A lot of seniors are doing bigger proposals due to it being their last dance. “Go big or go home! [It’s] senior year!” said Claycombe.
A very popular proposal over the past few years is done by decorating the significant other’s room. This can be a nice big gesture to make people grin from ear-to-ear.
“It’s always great to see her smile,” said Claycombe, seeming to consider the idea.
Several promposal concepts are admittedly cute, but have been overdone. This leaves them feeling used, and they are not as original anymore.
“I care more about the meaning behind the proposal, so I like something more creative,” Rizzo said, emphasizing the importance of a unique proposal.
While this message and image on the left is very sweet, it has been extremely popular on social media, and is not as special anymore, especially if the person receiving it has seen it several times.
However, a promposal will always be special if it is specific to the people involved.
Prom is around the corner, and witnessing the different proposals will be exciting to watch for many students.
