As the end of the school year approaches for OH, honor society inductions are taking place in honor of academic excellence.
With inductions taking the center stage these last couple of weeks, students are being recognized for their achievements while celebrating and welcoming new students into many different honor societies.
“It is the formal event that officially makes a student part of the NHS. It’s also a way that parents and families can celebrate the accomplishments of these students,” said National Honor Society sponsor Amy Dillon.
Honor society inductions create a meaningful moment for families and students to come together and recognize the dedication, leadership, and service that earned their students the honor of being a part of the society.
“We also highlight the amount and types of service that the organization has completed over the past year,” said Dillon. “The last item is recognizing the seniors that earned their NHS cords and officially inducting the juniors into the society.”
Along with introducing underclassmen into the society, honor societies celebrate the work seniors have done over the years. They earn cords to walk with for graduation to symbolize their dedication to the community throughout high school.

“Students should know that [being Inducted] is a commitment to our school that you are accepting, and you should be honored to be an inductee,” said National English Honor Society sponsor Abby Bartle.
Being inducted into honor societies isn’t just about recognizing achievements and being introduced to new things; it is also about pledging to continue to lead with responsibility and integrity and committing to being a part of a society that contributes to academics and OH in many different ways.
“Take inductions as moments to pause, reflect on how you got to this point, and look to who you want to be in the future. Use these landmarks of accomplishments as moments to remember in high school,” said National English Honor Society advisor Erin Holtz.
This milestone not only celebrates where students have been and what they have done, but also celebrates what future students of honor societies will become.
“Being part of the NHS is a huge accomplishment and something that is widely recognized and highly valued across many people and schools,” said National Honor Society vice president Grace Nachtigall.
Being inducted into honor societies welcomes students into a respected community that spans throughout the world at many different high schools and is even recognized by colleges.
“I would say honors society inductions are probably the most fun and exciting parts about being in any honors society,” said Nachtigall.
Students who are in or have earned a spot in honor societies work hard throughout the year to get to this moment.
Inductions are a well-earned ceremony of recognition that shows the efforts that students at OH put into the many different honor societies at the school.
OH offers 13 different honor societies into which students are inducted each year. For more information, check out our 42Fifty article on Unlocking opportunities: A guide to OH honor societies.
