A thousand future selves awaited OH students as they explored the College and Trade Expo on April 23, attended by hundreds of students and parents from the SD308 community who were interested in the career or college market.

“I want to be in the automotive [industry],” said OH junior James Creighton. “I want to [work on] some old cars, so I came out here to get a better look at and get a better feel [for the field].”

Creighton was one of the many students from OH who attended the event. Although his mind is currently set on the automotive field, he still found that looking at other jobs and opportunities a worthwhile experience while in attendance at the OH College and Trade Expo.

“I think this is a great place to go and get a better look at everything,” said Creighton. “I think [students] should definitely talk to everyone who can and [[..]] try to get as much information as you can about each job.”

The College and Trade Expo is designed for SD308 students to attend the event and see what is offered as a next step after high school.

“With this being a college trade expo, it’s beneficial for [companies] to come out and meet with students and let them know what we offer,” said Rashante Zackery, an Admissions Advisor for Waubonsee Community College.

Zackery was one of the many representatives at the fair looking for students to get interested in their future careers.

“We just started so far, [and have] probably met with about 15-20 students in a matter of 10-15 minutes,” said Zackery.

The Expo featured over 60 exhibitors from a range of sectors such as community colleges, trade schools, career training programs, and the US armed services.

“I have a real passion for sharing my love of education with future educators and helping people see that anybody can be a teacher,” said April Zawlocki, a professor at the College of DuPage.

The expo was an opportunity for students who were still on the fence to try to figure out what future careers they could have.

“I would say keep all options open. And don’t be afraid to try new things or explore ideas maybe you have never thought about before,” said Zawlocki.
