Wendy’s and Spongebob’s ambitious collaboration a tasteless event

OH students may remember Fred the Fish from Spongebob asking to “rev up those fryers because I sure am hungry for !”  Well, now they can enjoy a real-life krabby patty from the local Montgomery Wendy’s.

“ would have definitely kissed every individual patty and added ketchup smiley faces to the burgers” was Samia Britt’s first reaction after tasting the Krabby Patty Kollab Burger for the very first time.

25 years ago, Spongebob aired for the first time, unknowingly forming a legendary cartoonish legacy. Spongebob has grown into an iconic show loved worldwide, to the point that popular international fast-food palaces make a limited-time meal from the show for its 25th anniversary.

With the Nickelodeon and Wendy’s collaboration came a meal for customers to get the true Bikini Bottom experience, including a ‘Krabby Patty Kollab Burger,’ and a ‘Pineapple Under The Sea Frosty,’ available from Oct. 8 through Oct. 27.

The classic Krabby Patty in Spongebob is described as one of the best sandwiches/burgers in Bikini Bottom, making Wendy’s advertise it as such. The public wants to know what makes this burger so special since Plankton always made multiple attempts to steal the secret recipe. There had to be something in that burger that made it so perfect, right? However, fans of Spongebob beg to differ.

A lot of people felt let down by the Krabby Patty meal, people like OH student Samia Britt who said it was “[It was] very anticlimactic [[…]] it just tasted like a regular burger and not what thought a Krabby Patty would taste like,” said OH senior Samia Britt.

These complaints resonated with many people, most feeling as if they were cheaped out of a genuine Krabby Patty experience at the hands of corporate soullessness, lacking the genuine love Spongebob would have for the nautical burger.

The fries were also not complying with the Spongebob theme at all, as if they were rushed into the meal to fit into a deadline.

Included in the Krabby Patty meal also was a  special pineapple-flavored frosty, referencing Spongebob’s home, as he lives in a pineapple under the sea. Burger aside, some students believe that the meal itself has some merits.

“[The frosty] was the best thing out of everything presented,” said OH senior Brenda Plata. “It was just a vanilla frosty with a hint of pineapple, so they couldn’t really go wrong with that; but again, it wasn’t anything special either.”

Although the frosty was positively reviewed, there was nothing that stood out from it being an “extraordinary frosty,” as customers expected it to be.

The Krabby Patty meal was a disappointing celebration, cruelly mocking Spongebob and disgracing the show’s legacy by creating a meal that rounds out to be just okay, leaving many fans dissatisfied and still longing for the true Bikini Bottom Experience. Highlights of the meal included the burger, which tasted like a normal burger. For those who like fast food burgers, this one is at least one to try.

Paying customers will await when the time comes for a truly acceptable and presentable Krabby Patty in the real world.

  1. Hi Matt. HOW HAVE I NOT HEARD ABOUT THIS? I’m a fan of Spongebob but not a big fan of Wendy’s. Still, I would try this and especially would love to try the pineapple frosty. Maybe I can get there in the next few days!
