Each spring, OH seniors are invited back to their SD#308 elementary schools the week before graduation. In this sentimental journey, graduates take their last walk down school hallways in the place where they started their academic journey.
“The final walks were originally started in a few elementary schools by parents or parent organizations,” said alumni event organizer and former Boulder Hill Elementary school teacher Maryam Osusch.
During the event, students will walk the halls in their caps and gowns and be celebrated for their accomplishments throughout their high school careers.
This opportunity allows graduates to acknowledge their hard work and dedication throughout the past four years. Students have the chance to have a final look at where all the hard work started for them.
When attending, graduates can bring their cap and gown, along with any cords, medals, and pins earned. Students and parents attending the walks will need to bring a photo ID to enter. It is asked that you have a sign with your full name and intended future plans after high school.
“When I get to see students that have gone from young 9/10-year-olds to adults, it is a moment of pride and also is bucket filling,” said Osuch.
Senior Paola Rodriguez said, “I’m excited to see all my old friends and teachers. It’s [going to] feel great to walk the halls again.”
These walks help build a strong community by bringing a sense of belonging and pride to the district, as well as the young minds that get to experience the event.
There will be some time for photos and reconnecting before all walks. Students can visit with their previous teachers and take photos after the alumni walks.
