OH baseball seniors commit to the same college, friends on and off the mound

Moving into the spring season, OH baseball is in full swing, and seniors, like Andrew Zwemke and Aiden Jaquez, are ready to take the field for one last season with OH baseball.

On the mound, pitchers Zwemke and Jaquez have played baseball all four years of high school. At the same time, both are competing to perform on the mound.

“I want to be remembered as a leader in our senior group, and I want to be remembered as a good pitcher that helped a good team win a lot of games,” said Jaquez.

As both pitchers, the friendship and the rivalry may come into conflict.

“I want Andrew and me to have, like, to be the top two for us to go and lead us to a long playoff run,” said Jaquez.

All four years, the last two on varsity, the players are excited to see what it brings them.

“I want to have a successful, good, fun last season and go deep in the playoffs.” said Zwemke.

Both Zwemke and Jaquez, in their final season of baseball, are ready to leave everything they’ve got on the mound.

As early committed athletes to the University of Missouri St. Louis, Zwemke and Jaquez look forward to continuing their baseball careers. As best friends, college was something to look forward to.

“I wanted to commit since I was a kid,” Jaquez said. “I wanted to go to college for baseball.”

Coach Giaratte said of the athletes, “I hold them to higher expectations and hold them accountable for everything they do, which will help them grow.”

The coaching staff and OH support all baseball players, holding them to be not only a good player but also a good person.

“I want to have a good year, and I want to make it far in the playoff run,” said Jaquez.

The OH baseball team has high hopes for the season, playoffs, and hopefully making it to the IHSA state finals.

“I want to go on a state run, go deep in the playoffs,” said Zwemke.

As seniors, Jaquez and Zwemke have lots of advice for younger baseball players, in high school now and upcoming freshmen.

“Stay focused on your path,” Zwemke shared. “Everyone else’s is going to be different.”

Jaquez offered, “Just know that you want to go to college or baseball, you’ve got to know at a young age, so start training young and then they will come later.”

Both athletes have a bright future ahead of them. Competing in a high difficulty and more competitive environment.

“I’m excited about the competition level going to D2,” said Zwemke.

As their final season is in full swing, Zwemke and Jaquez aren’t just pitching for wins, but they’re pitching to leave a legacy.
