The OH Tech Hub recently conducted internship interviews for the upcoming 2024-25 school year. The Tech Hub, located in the LRC, is an in-school resource for anyone to visit for technology-related needs. IT specialist and Instructional Technology Coach Jaclyn King and Technology Specialist Robert Shaw lead the hub.

According to current Tech Hub sophomore Sophia Montoya, the Tech Hub is a great benefit and opportunity for students interested in the subject of technology. “You get the internship, you get the experience, and that’s really what people … who are getting jobs in the tech industry … want for people who are applying,” said Montoya.

As described by King, the Tech Hub is “a work-like experience” where qualities such as the ability to work independently, communication, collaboration, and problem-solving are crucial. Students partaking in the internship are assigned to help run the Tech Hub, with tasks including diagnosing and troubleshooting device issues as well as assisting students or staff with device needs.

The course is open to students grades 10 through 12 and can be applied during course selection. In addition to a “hands-on study of technology integration, support, and management,” King said it is an opportunity for students to gain knowledge on technology skills, as they “gain opportunities to become a certified technician in Acer and Dell products.” The hyperlinked internship information provides insight for future interested interns.

According to King, joining the Tech Hub differs slightly from traditional applications. “We recruit in a variety of different ways … [R]ather than an application, the students can just sign up via course selection or talk to their counselor,” explained King.

After that selection process, interviews with the students take place, by either King (OH), Nicholas Helms (OE), or Michael Lund, who works with District Technology.

I am Enrique Salas-Aguirre a senior at Oswego High School, this year would be my first with 42Fifty. I excited to start writing and publishing my ideas and contribute my part in the 42Fifty team. I enjoy writing opinion pieces the most although I am open to all types. I like listening and making music, my favorite genre at the moment is R&B. I train weight lifting outside of school and plan to compete some day. Overall, I am excited to contribute my piece to the site, and hopefully leave a significant mark in my short time here. 🙂
