OH prom ‘24 information: celebrating Rio Carnival

* Editors Note: Removed the disclaimer and added prices and food options.

OH will host 2024’s prom at a new venue, The Matrix Club in Naperville, on Saturday, April 27, from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. This year’s theme, “Rio Carnival,” was decided by senior votes from the following theme options: Clue, Rio Carnival, and Boardwalk.

“We meet with the Junior Class Council several times between October [and] January to choose three possible themes, said one of the event organizers, junior Jessica Kawulia. “Students use inspiration from past proms, proms from other schools, and ideas from Pinterest.”

She explained that “[o]nce we choose three themes, they are sent to all seniors to vote on in January [to] February, and the senior class gets to pick what the theme will be.”

According to an e-mail sent out to students, each ticket will allow one person in. These tickets are nonrefundable, and guests are not allowed to sell them. Although guests may enter at 6 p.m., they are welcome to arrive afterward, however, attendees will not be allowed in after 7 p.m. Online ticket sales, for $80 per ticket, will begin on Tuesday, April 2, and end on Friday, April 12.

Although there is no limit on ticket sales this year, seating at The Matrix Club will be first-come-first-served, with a limited amount of seating at each table.

Dinner will be served at each table, where attendees will sit down and enjoy the included meal they chose when they purchased their tickets. The options are a chicken dinner, or a vegetarian meal, which will be pasta. Anyone with allergies, questions, or concerns should contact event organizers Jessica Kawulia and Jennifer Keto.

“Last year there weren’t a lot of [allergy friendly] foods available, so I hope this year they get a larger variety of [them],” said senior Arleth Antunez.

In addition to food, students who decide to attend can also look forward to interacting with other attendees, whether they’re from OH or not. Anyone can attend, as long as they are under 19 or under.

Guest passes will be available for purchase starting Monday, March 11, and are due by Wednesday, April 10. All guest pass applications must be submitted to the Dean’s Office for approval before purchase.

To enter the event, students must have their student ID card on them, and guests must enter with an OH student in addition to needing a photo ID. Attendees will only be allowed into the event with their IDs.

According to Dean Lynn Wingard, students with outstanding fees, such as library dues, “lost privileges,” or students who have not served their detentions will be unable to purchase prom tickets.

As the third prom OH will host since the COVID shutdown, Prom 2024 promises to be a fantastic event full of fun, color, and joy. OH administrators encourage students to enjoy the night with their friends while being mindful of safety and school rules. Since this is a school event, students should look to the school’s behavior matrix to make this a fun night for everyone attending.
