The 2023 Game Awards aired on Dec. 8, giving gamers a lot of exciting announcements in addition to the award ceremony. If you didn’t get to see the stream, here are the event’s highlights.
Two different games mostly won the biggest awards. “Baldur’s Gate 3” walked away with wins in Best Community Support, Best RPG, Best Multiplayer Presented by Discord, and the Players’ Voice Award. On top of all those, “Baldur’s Gate 3” also won Best Performance due to Neil Newbon’s work as Asterion.
The other game to win several awards was “Alan Wake 2,” which flew under many people’s radars as it was released on Oct. 27. “Alan Wake 2” was awarded Best Game Direction, Best Narrative, and Best Art Direction.
However, the most coveted award, Game of the Year, went to Larian Studios with “Baldur’s Gate 3,” which wasn’t a surprise due to how big of a launch the game had. “Alan Wake 2” may have had a better chance, but its late release hindered it a bit.
There were also announcements surrounding upcoming projects. Some of the notable ones were a new free DLC for “God of War: Ragnarok”, a new “Blade” game being announced, and there will even be a new “Fallout” TV series. Among other announcements, we also got a new trailer for “Black Myth: Wukong”, as well as one for “Rise of the Ronin.”
